I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.
toomuchbaloney said:Meanwhile, while Trump's supporters and the Russian disinformation wants people to think that Biden is cognitively challenged, the republican front runner is engaged in confused and agitated speech. Trump seems very confused in his SC speech about who was president and who he has campaigned against and, of course, he's always confused about science and technology.
There's a good reason that so many republican voters prefer to ignore what Trump actually says and does. If they pay attention they will also know that Trump regularly speaks in a confused word salad and displays evidence of mentally instability.
Sometimes, accusation = confession

There is no reasonable excuse to have politically gerrymandered voting districts in the 21st century.
Tweety said:Totally agree. Biden's presidency has a lot of issues that people have problems with.
Also I think it says a lot about America in general that they are still willing to elevate Trump in a wide field of alternatives. I know that's getting to be a broken record with me, but I can't wrap my head around that. I can't believe the country that elected Obama and that has made so many advancements in equality, science and the environment has elevated Trump above anyone.
I understand the polls are a statement towards Biden, but I think something deeper and in my opinion darker is behind Trump being the favorite.
Isn't that what we all do? I don't want Biden, didn't vote for him last primaries but I voted for him when he got the nomination. It's a no brainer that swaths of republicans that might have wanted someone else would vote for him over Biden because they dislike Biden and his policies that much. Most of the candidates and republicans in congress have said they would vote for Trump should he get the nomination. I can understand that Trump is unaccepted to you and I but can understand the idea that Republicans that don't want him will vote for him when he gets the nomination.

This doesn't say much for the moronic audience who is applauding. The video is so edited it's impossible to know how many people were there. I see that the Women for Trump were displayed prominently in the front of the crowd with the same sign so I assume they are hired for the job.

Except, I guess, for the one that says Trump has lost lots of women?
I haven't seen any polls that Trump has lost lots of women but I certainly have had many women speak in the news about changing their stance. I have a formerly Republican friend here who absolutely freaked about the abortion decisions. She is not a lone statistic. Here is some more reporting about polls in the 2020 election:

Those polls seemed pretty accurate to me, some off by a point or two at the end. They predicted Biden would win and indeed he did. Your point is that they weren't 100% accurate? I'm informed enough to know they aren't.
It's 2023 and we've had three years of Biden as president. Looking at a 2020 election doesn't seem useful to me.
Also, let me repeat myself, a year ahead of the election I'm filing away polls in the trash can, so I'm not sure why you're even asking for my judgement.
Ways to increase Voter Registration started!
As a PA driver, our drivers center offered to register one to vote as part of new or license renewal since the 90's.. Now, one needs to OPT OUT otherwise will be automatically registered to vote due to efforts by Gov. Josh Shapiro and Al Schmidt (former Philadelphia City Commissioner in charge of Elections -famous from 2020 election, now PA's Secretary of State).
Pennsylvanians will now be automatically registered to vote when they go to the DMV
QuotePennsylvania will join 23 other states that have implemented automatic voter registration as part of a national, bipartisan effort to increase voter engagement and turnout.
Donald does not seem to agree:
Praise be to Taylor Swift for helping to Save the Democracy by encouraging her 270+million followers to register to Vote reportedly resulting in 35,000 new voter registrations post her Tuesday plea.
Philadelphia Inquirer Opinion columnist pundit Will Bunch agrees
Can Taylor Swift save U.S. democracy if Joe Biden can't? Here's an idea for 2024.
Quote...On Tuesday — National Voter Registration Day — the now-Nashville-based singer posted a plea to her 272 million Instagram followers to sign up for the ballot, triggering a sizable response. "I've been so lucky to see so many of you guys at my U.S. shows recently. I've heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are,” Swift wrote. "Make sure you're ready to use them in our elections this year!” The group Vote.org posted its biggest day since the heated 2020 election, with many of the 35,000 new voters coming not long after the singer hit the "send" button.
The Swift maneuver was very much in line with something I've been thinking about lately. America needs something a lot bigger than our corrupted political parties if we're going to stop this slide into authoritarianism. I've said in the past that the Trump personality cult has turned the GOP into an antidemocratic movement, not a political party. I now believe that defeating this MAGA cult will require not just a countermovement, but a mass movement that saves our politics by transcending politics — led by the best and brightest of pop culture and moral virtue....

I don't agree with these laws. If one isn't motivated enough to complete a few easy steps on their own, why should the rest of us want them to vote?
I think the last time Taylor Swift encouraged voter registration in Tennessee they saw a jump. Currently Taylor Swift is having a moment as the biggest star in the United States, so she might.
My favorite quote from Trump above. " Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, and others, are far more important than "Aida,” Sloppy Chris, Lyin' Mike Pence, Nikki "Birdbrain" Haley, Ron (“Dead Campaign”) DeSanctimonious, and the others."
Again he sounds like a middle school kid.
Imagine being upset at efforts to increase voter registration. Really the man has no respect for Democracy at all.

No. I wouldn't vote for Trump under any circumstances.
Yes, millions of republican voters will be Trump supporters in spite of the clear evidence of his disqualifying character flaws, multiple indictments and scores of felony charges next November. They, as a political party, have no ethics or values which would prevent them from voting for a corrupt and dangerous man who muses about suspending our constitution to empower himself.
Yes, there's something dark behind that "conservatives" urge to self destruct our democracy and our global alliances. You know what I'm going to say. The dark things behind the current republican themes are fascism and propaganda. Do you think there's another explanation?
