I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.
One of the presidential candidates gave a good speech yesterday.
QuoteAnd now, history has brought us to a new time of testing. Very few of us will ever be asked to endure what John McCain endured. But all of us are being asked right now: What will we do to maintain our democracy? Will we, as John wrote, never quit? Will we not hide from history, but make history? Will we put partisanship aside and put country first?
I say we must and we will. We will.
QuoteLet me begin with the core principles. Democracy means rule of the people, not rule of monarchs, not rule of the monied, not rule of the mighty. Regardless of party, that means respecting free and fair elections; accepting the outcome, win or lose. (Applause.) It means you can't love your country only when you win. (Applause.)
Democracy means rejecting and repudiating political violence. Regardless of party, such violence is never, never, never acceptable in America. (Applause.) It's undemocratic, and it must never be normalized to advance political power.
And democracy means respecting the institutions that govern a free society. That means adhering to the timeless words of the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident.” A mission statement embodied in our Constitution, our system of separation of powers and checks and balances.
Our Constitution — the bulwark to prevent the abuse of power to ensure "We the People" move forward together under the law, rather than believing the only way is one way or no way at all.
But our institutions and our democracy are not just of gov- — of government. The institutions of democracy depend on the Constitution and our character — our character and the habits of our hearts and minds.
It's nice to have a president appealing to our better angels.
QuoteDozens of cases have been filed nationally but the Free Speech For People cases and one filed in Colorado by another liberal group are the first brought by organizations with significant legal resources.
Trump has dismissed the push to bar him from the ballot as "election interference" and his attorneys argued in the Colorado case that it violates his free speech rights.
Those are seen as most likely to reach the U.S. Supreme Court, which has never ruled on the provision.
Michigan is a particularly significant location for a challenge because it is both a swing state and its Democratic Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, wrote in The Washington Post earlier this month that she and other top election officers don't have the ability to bar Trump under the clause.
Section three has only been used a handful of times since the Civil War.
This is going to be very interesting.
I don't know much about this man, but apparently has been eye-balling the Presidency himself.

Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota is leaving his position in House Democratic leadership over his party's support of President Joe Biden's 2024 reelection bid.
"My convictions relative to the 2024 presidential race are incongruent with the majority of my caucus, and I felt it appropriate to step aside from elected leadership,” Phillips said in a statement Sunday.

Good luck to him.

The interesting thing is that when he was floating around the idea of running against Biden, the Democrats more or less allowed him that idea. He wasn't stripped of his assignments and I haven't heard the Democrat party where he's from talking about voting him out of the party like they did Liz Cheney when she spoke out against Trump.

Hopefully there are a growing number of Americans who are beginning to recognize that these two political parties, in the era of Trump, are not at all the same. The democrats aren't saints but they are the party that is not entertaining a dangerous despot and excusing his attempt to overthrow our government.

A new poll of registered voters in Nevada suggests the state is poised to reprise its role as a key battleground in the presidential election next November, while its first-in-the-West Republican caucuses in February could help to cement former President Donald Trump's hold on the race for his party's nomination.
President Joe Biden and Trump split registered voters in a hypothetical 2024 matchup in Nevada by a near-even margin with no clear leader: 46% support Biden, 45% Trump in a CNN poll of the state conducted by SSRS. The poll's results mirror the tight race seen in nearly all recent national polls testing initial reactions to a repeat of the 2020 presidential election, when Biden won Nevada by just over 2 percentage points.

Santos fed charges worsening re fake donor scheme... don't think will be re-elected.
Federal prosecutors file new charges against Rep. George Santos
QuoteFederal prosecutors on Long Island filed new criminal charges against Rep. George Santos on Tuesday, accusing him of stealing people's identities, making charges on his donors' credit cards without their authorization, and lying to federal election officials.
The charges follow the indictment last week of Santos' former campaign finance chief Nancy Marks. Prosecutors said they enlisted 10 family members without their knowledge to donate to the campaign to make it seem like Santos was getting enough support to qualify for party funds.
According to the charges, Santos said he had lent his campaign $500,000 when, in fact, he only had $8,000 on hand....

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Reacts To Family Denouncing Him
Quote
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was put on the spot Tuesday when asked on "Fox & Friends" about his family members denouncing him....
...“I love my family,” Kennedy replied. "Every family has disputes. I've got a lot of family members who are supporting me. There's a lot of members of my family who are working for the Biden administration and they have their own opinions about issues.”
Kennedy did, however, say the split from the party amid the family drama was gnawing at him.
The analysis is the Kennedy is going to start out strong. I think he knows this otherwise he wouldn't have gone Independent. There is dissatisfaction against both Trump and Biden and he could be seen as an alternative.
His stance is "declare your independence!".
About climate change he says. "This crisis is being used as a pretext for clamping down totalitarian controls, the same way the COVID crisis was, and it's the same people: it's the intelligence agencies, it's the world economic forum, it's the billionaire boys' club ..."
He is feeding the fuel out there to mistrust American institutions because they only want to control you, but also unlike Republicans he doesn't seem to like billionaires (even though he was born with a silver spoon and is a depo baby politician) which attracts a lot of people.
Time will tell.
