I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.
People always dismiss polls when they don't favor what we favor. Trump did the same thing many times. It's being said the poll is an outlier poll but props for them publishing it anyway.
Still most polls show him a few points behind Trump. I even read one where he would lose to Haley by a few points.
Polls are showing Trumps numbers going up among Republicans while DeSantis loses grounds. It's becoming clear to me Trump will be the nominee.
A nearly 10 point lead over Biden is significant. I have read an article that 2021 saw a switch in people moving more to the right. This certainly has been evident in legislation and culture wars. So there are significant challenges.
With cities struggling to house and handle the influx of immigrants legal and otherwise it's easy to see how republicans can capitalize on this. Fox News reports on it often, especially when "Dem Run Cities" are struggling.
I think he question "are you better off economically since Biden took office" probably 100% of us would say no, including myself. My salary hasn't kept up with inflation but I can make ends meet. I work overtime to pay for things like when insurances are due and for luxuries like travel. But the answer would be no. Do I approve of how he's handling the economy? I have some mixed reviews on that because I really don't blame him for inflation and the economy is roaring along by some metrics. My retirement funds are still not recovered to the previously high levels of 2021,
I also find "he's too old to be President" to be agist. To me from what I've observed he's doing okay as President now. Maybe because I'm a boomer that's aging relatively well I think that we have to look at the individual. I'm taking care of people younger than me that are already on disability of their health issues, and many people younger than him with dementia. But I also wish he'd retire to make room for someone younger to appeal to younger voters and to just make room for the next generation. My best friend retired when he was 62 because he could. But he also expressed frustration that there were many professors (he was a college professor) that were not retiring well into their 70's and a few 80 year olds that was shutting out younger candidates from being hired. But he said they were good at their jobs and it wasn't an age thing.
At the end of the day, with the election more than a year away I'll read the polls with interest and then put them in the trash.

I knew you'd be the voice of reason in response to the poll I posted.
No, any polling now isn't a predictor of who will win. But, of course, although a 10% margin might be an outlier, it is significant that this poll and others consistently show Biden behind or at best about even with Trump.
We're talking about a sitting president not being up on the guy who he beat who is a widely unpopular ex-president.
That says a lot about the Biden presidency, imo.
If the polling continues with this trend, the calls for him to not run will soon grow loud.

I'm the one to posted the poll, and as I've said many times, I hope Trump isn't the Republican candidate.
Maybe you're projecting?

Perhaps you forgot that you also said you would vote for Trump again if he was the GOP nominee. That's not projection, that's responding to your words and sentiments expressed in these threads.
An example of projection is noticing that the leading republican candidate is a twice impeached corrupt law breaker and then deciding to call the Biden's a crime family and talk about impeachment in the absence of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Meanwhile, while Trump's supporters and the Russian disinformation wants people to think that Biden is cognitively challenged, the republican front runner is engaged in confused and agitated speech. Trump seems very confused in his SC speech about who was president and who he has campaigned against and, of course, he's always confused about science and technology.
There's a good reason that so many republican voters prefer to ignore what Trump actually says and does. If they pay attention they will also know that Trump regularly speaks in a confused word salad and displays evidence of mentally instability.

Totally agree. Biden's presidency has a lot of issues that people have problems with.
Also I think it says a lot about America in general that they are still willing to elevate Trump in a wide field of alternatives. I know that's getting to be a broken record with me, but I can't wrap my head around that. I can't believe the country that elected Obama and that has made so many advancements in equality, science and the environment has elevated Trump above anyone.
I understand the polls are a statement towards Biden, but I think something deeper and in my opinion darker is behind Trump being the favorite.

Isn't that what we all do? I don't want Biden, didn't vote for him last primaries but I voted for him when he got the nomination. It's a no brainer that swaths of republicans that might have wanted someone else would vote for him over Biden because they dislike Biden and his policies that much. Most of the candidates and republicans in congress have said they would vote for Trump should he get the nomination. I can understand that Trump is unaccepted to you and I but can understand the idea that Republicans that don't want him will vote for him when he gets the nomination.

I
I agree and don't like the question. Blame Reagan when he famously looked into the camera during a debate and asked that very question and it elevated to him to a height that made him unbeatable.

The polls were wrong the last time. The polls were wrong for Harry Truman and continue to be wrong ever since. Trump has lot a lot of women.
