Did anyone attend TWU for their nursing program, specifically the BSN? I am looking into nursing school and I wanted to know how people liked it.

BOOKS~

I am trying to find out how much books cost for the TWU nursing program in Dallas. I was told this summer that "they" sell all of the books needed for all 4 semesters in a package deal that comes with CDs for about $1200. Is this true? I am trying to calculate the costs. Any info is appreciated.

yeah about the cost. at LEAST. first semester was 670 for me. some were reused in later classes. i could do w/o some of the books they recommended so i'd price them separately w/o the ones that aren't required and see if the bundle saves anything.

:yeah:congrats to everyone who got accepted to the spring 09 program. i got accepted as well, to the houston program.

to the people familiar with the program, i am curious to know what the average percent (or count) of the class is men. i'm a man coming from a testosterone filled career environment (computers), into this female dominated field. so, i am a bit nervous....

any information pertaining to your experience with (or observation of) male students will be very informative. thanks!

Hello, I am also going to TWU for Spring '09 and a friend of mine who is already in the program told me to get ALL of the recommended books. She said that some people didn't and it got them into some big trouble on tests.

Just wanted to pass that along... :)

I just got accepted to TWU, not the nursing school yet but the college. I have to do my pre-nursing! Hopefully I'll be in the Houston nursing school in '11.

Work hard on your pre-reqs, it will be worth it. Good luck!

Did that friend by chance give you an estimated price for all of the books? I also heard that they sell the recommended books in a "package" - do you know if this is true?

Just because you buy all the books, doesn't mean you will have time to read them all. I would wait to buy the recommended books and see what your professor says was helpful to other students. These books are expensive and sometimes you don't even use them.

Reps from Elsevier will try to sell you a package and mislead you into thinking it contains all the books you need for your entire nursing school career. In actuality, it only contained books for the first semester of nursing school, and access to Evolve resources (this website and CD that has additional resources pertaining to your text books) for the first semester as well. If you wanted Evolve access for subsequent semesters, you would have to go to the bookstore and buy a code. I would reccommend just finding out which books you need and buying them from Amazon.

Do you know this because it happend to you or someone you know? I did hear that the package were for all 4 semesters, and of course nothing about buying the code. I think i'm gonna listen to my gut feeling and wait to see what i might need before spending that kind of money. I have a Ipaq handheld pc that i am wanting to buy software for. Anybody have any advise for the handhelds? Do you like it, or know others that find them useful?

Jspacegirl is right. I am still there, and have been having to buy new books every semester (except for the big blue Lemone and Burke one). It's definitely not as much as that first semester, though. Since I bought that huge package, I only buy my books on Amazon. Majors is way too expensive.

So, ACKrissy - do you think it beneficial to go ahead and buy the package deal for simplicity purposes? I intend on waiting until i get the list from orientation to check prices online before i buy. I am kinda afraid to buy all the books in the package and not use all of them at some point.
