Did anyone attend TWU for their nursing program, specifically the BSN? I am looking into nursing school and I wanted to know how people liked it.

OMG I am sooo glad they changed up the uniforms for the students as TWU. When I was there (in the 70's) we had to wear these pepto bismol colored uniforms with white hose and those horrible nurse clinic shoes (do they make these any longer?). It was soooo horrible going to clinical. We stood out like sore thumbs. Thank God things have progressed. My best of luck to all of you who are just starting out. It has been a great profession for me. And you also might want to think about starting a journal about the funny or tragic things that you see during your career. I failed to do this and I regret it. It would have made one hell of a book. Diane

I will be a Senior 1 at the Dallas Campus in the Spring. Do you have any advice or commits for me? I was wondering about how many clinicals are there for each class. I think I may be stuck with a Saturday clinical for Adult 2 and was trying to figure out a schedule for my kids. I know I am so glad to have a break. I wish you the best of luck for S1.

My advice is to get a lot of sleep now! :) Sr I was by far the hardest semester time-wise. You feel like you're constantly running around sleep deprived. If you haven't already figured a way to manage your time, I would definitely try to find a way now. You'll have clinicals 3 days a week, and class twice a week (including all day on friday). It was hard for me going from Jr 2 (when we had quite a few days off) to Sr 1. Are you working, too?

Sr I is not impossible. The stuff we learn isn't too hard--it's the lack of time that makes it difficult. Depending on who you have for clinical, the paperwork in mental health can be horrible. Do you know where you're going/who you have next semester? If you'd rather PM me, you can do that, too, and I can give you info about each of those instructors.

Hello All,

I will be attending TWU-Houston in the Spring 2009. Is anyone here in the RN-BSN program there? Thanks

D.R.M. R.N.

Hello!

I just graduated with my BSN from TWU Houston a week ago. Like every nursing program, it has it's kinks, but I personally think it is one of the best. Because the campus is located in the medical center, we use a lot of the large teaching institutions in the TMC to do our clinicals, and that makes for some really awesome teaching opportunities. You get to see some of the sickest patients and work along side some really experienced nurses who are used to taking students under their wings. The quality of your clinical experiences will make or break your schooling experience, and TWU-Houston has some great clinical sites. Not only that, many of the faculty are employeed at the local institutions (like MD Anderson, St. Luke's, Methodist, Memorial Hermann, Ben Taub etc...) and they are wonderful when it comes to helping you network, giving advice on good floors to work on, and helping you get good summer internship opportunities.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I graduated from TWU in 1978. I was at the Houston campus. I feel that I got a fine education there. I felt well prepared when I graduated. I also worked part time at a hospital during my senior year and that hands on work really helped me as well.

Hi, I was accepted to TWU nursing Houston for Fall 09. I was curious for those of you who are in the Spring 09 program as JR I how is it going!?

I was reading about those patient care reports you will have to write. Is it true those are like 20 pages?

And..any advice on should I or should I not get a PDA with medical software?

Thanks and i Hope it's goign well

I'm not sure about Houston, but in Dallas - they have not yet been 20 pages...10-12 though. There is a format. No worries, they will explain it all and you should know what to expect when the time comes. I know that is easier said than done. I was SO excited before starting this semester i thought i was going to bust LOL. Good luck!

Hello nhoward, I am a J1 currently at the Houston campus. Boy, are you in for some fun :) The classes are demanding, challenging but rewarding. The clinicals are also a good experience, my clinical is at Ben Taub's psych ward!! As far as care plans go it all depends who your instructor is. My care plans have not been longer than 6 pages this semester, but I have friends who have had 40 pages of care plans. Any other questions?

TWUness1 I will be nhoward's classmate in aug. Besides getting the saunder nclex review book do you really need to buy all the study guides for the books this fall semester?? Any advice u can give us for our first semester would be great

Yeah I agree. Do we need to buy that "package" of book they are going to be offering us at advisement day? Also, do you nkow anyone or do u recommend a PDA? Thanks so much!! Good luck!

Where did you hear about the NCLEX book? If it is a teacher recommending a book I would get it. However, as J1's most of the testing information comes from the lectures and the text,...except concepts. The teacher for that class pulls questions from unknown sources, lol. I didn't buy the package I bought all my books from amazon and saved a TON of money. I would say that PDA's are helpful but I don't know anyone who has them at my level.

Also, if you are taking patho. next semester I would recommend that you do NOT buy the book. I did and I haven't opened all semester and have been makung A's in the class. I would, however, advise getting the workbook.

Thanks so much! I'll be taking patho this summer actually so I'm sure I'm goign to need the book since we only meet for class once a week.

Thank you again I really appreciate it!
