My coworker earned her BSN from TWU in 2003. Since she is a quiet and secretive person, I'll probably never know whether she liked the program.

Wonderful!

I am just wondering do you like it?

Is the program well run?

Do you feel like your being prepared for the real world?

How are the instructors?

Were your prerequisites hard and if they were, were the instructors willing to help?

Is it easy to fit in and make friends easily?

Do you get a lot of practice time before having to do procedures in clinicals?

Sorry if I have a lot of questions but I am really looking into TWU and want information. Thanks so much!

I'm a somewhat recent grad.

I am just wondering do you like it? Haha, no not really! It was pretty crammed with info.. good education though.

Is the program well run? Ehh, it has its kinks but all schools do.

Do you feel like your being prepared for the real world? yes

How are the instructors? some are AMAZING and some are something the cat dragged in.

Were your prerequisites hard and if they were, were the instructors willing to help? did prereqs elsewhere

Is it easy to fit in and make friends easily? yes

Do you get a lot of practice time before having to do procedures in clinicals? practicing in the lab was nothing like the real thing, but i got plenty of practice on patients. some people went through nursing school and never did a foley, never had a vent patient, never started an iv, never did a blood draw. this shocks me because i did everything multiple times. it depends on YOU - you have to be the one to seek out opportunities because if you don't, you won't learn near as much.

Yes, I like it for the most part. No school is perfect, but overall I think I am learning a lot! They just changed the curiculum, and my class is the first class on the "new plan", so things are a little less organized than usual, but I hear from the new Jr I's that it is much better than it was for us! Most of the instructors are pretty good... of course there are always a few that you wonder about, but once again, that happens at almost all schools

I took my pre-req's all over. I actually earned a Bachelors at another school first, so I took some of my pre-req's there, some at TWU, and some at community colleges. If you havent taken your pre-req's yet, I'd take them at a community college or at TWU...the only reason I would say TWU is because if you take a certain number of hours at TWU, you get 0.4 added to your GPA when it comes time to applying for nursing school. The 0.4 can really help a lot. ...but if you do really well in community college, you'll have a good chance of getting in, too! The pre-req's were not all that bad...the class that was the hardest for me was microbiology b/c my instructor was notoriously hard. A&P is pretty much memoirzation. Some of my pre-req instructors were awesome and some were not all that great.

Hmm, we dont really get all that much practice time before we go to clinicals. Usually the clinicals are the practice times :) You get a bag you can take home and practice with, but some of the stuff is hard to practice at home (such as IV's). They do have open lab times where you can come in and practice, but it's up to you to go to them.

I feel like it is pretty easy to fit in at TWU. My class is so diverse: we have young girls, moms, newlyweds, old women, old men, young men, African Americans, Hispanic, Asian, Caucasian, etc..basically everything :-) I feel like the people at TWU are more accepting and diverse than those at Baylor (I applied to both and went to the orientation at Baylor and met some of my going-to-be classmates)

Oh, actually Redefinition, I saw you work in the NICU, that is what I hope to pursue when I finish school. Did TWU prepare you well for NICU work or did you do another area before going into the NICU?

Did anyone attend TWU for their nursing program, specifically the BSN? I am looking into nursing school and I wanted to know how people liked it.

I graduated from TWU Dallas campus in 95 . I would highly recommend the school. good luck getting in though. its very competitive, based on your GPA. :cheers:

I went straight in. Two of us did our transition clinicals in TCH's level III NICU so I think that helped.
