Did anyone attend TWU for their nursing program, specifically the BSN? I am looking into nursing school and I wanted to know how people liked it.
The coursework had NOTHING NICU related in it. I lucked out and got clinicals for the transition course (final class that ties everything together and you get to take on a full pt load) at TCH and there were 2 openings for the NICU and I got one. All other clinicals other than TCH had to transition on med/surg but we had a few ICU openings (2 NICU, 1 CVICU, and 1 PICU...and 1 ER). It was completely different from anything learned in the didactic courses..and I mean *completely*! I love it though!
So did you go to TWU in Houston or Dallas? I didn't think they had transition classes at TCH in Dallas. I LOVE TCH and think I may want to work there eventually...
hi, everyone.
i was wondering if there's anyone here who went through (or is currently in) the fast track program at TWU? can you tell me a little about it? i've heard there's as much as a 70% rejection rate in some years, and i just wondered if anybody knew what exactly they're looking for, other than gpa and NET scores?

They look ONLY at nursing pre-req GPA and NET scores. You don't even have an opportunity to send in a resume or write an essay, so that is absolutely it.
So far as the 70% rejection rate goes; I would say that is comparable to or even better than what the rejection rate is for the traditional BSN program is at TWU, or for any good nursing program, for that matter. TWU *claims* that they have had as many as over 1000 applicants for their regular BSN program, and considering that they accept around 80 students for that program, that works out to be an 8% acceptance rate, or 92% rejection rate.
I am starting the nursing program in Dalllas Spring 09....OMG that's only like 10 weeks! Anyway, i was wondering about scrubs, classes and clinicals. I have heard you wear scrubs to classes the days you have clinicals, anything the days you don't, but you have to dress "business casual" for your "pre-clinicals" - which i have no idea what that is or how it works.
So, any information i can get would be greatly appreciated. Indeed, i am going to orientation in a couple weeks, but i am anxious to know. Thanks.

You usually wear your lab coat and like khaki pants (just no jeans) to preclinical to pick up a patient. Then you do a care plan on that patient for the next day. Don't worry about this just yet. You usually don't start actual clinicals until a month into the program.

You don't have clinical and classes on the same days. The only time we did was when we got out of clinical and literally RAN from the hospital to the campus to get to the pharm class (our group was registered for pharm on the next day) they had the same day so we'd be off all day the next day!
