  1. Good luck in finishing nursing school and the continuation of your education.
  2. You know what I just applied and got accepted. There was no test to take to get in the RN-BSN program. It's not like regular nursing school there are no set number of spots. I think you have to have at least a 2.5 GPA with all your prerequisites for the RN-BSN and a 3.0 GPA for the RN-MSN. But it is way more simpler than actual nursing school. All the courses are online for the most part. You can take Patho, Management in a class setting if you want. But it is pretty good. I graduate this May 2010.
  3. SHSU does not have a nursing program i went there for 3 yrs and then to nursing school. They have a Pre-professional nursing program which is basically the pre-req's for nursing school. They only have 1 hospital and it's not that close to the university so I think it would be hard to have a nursing program like the one's in houston and dallas. But huntsville is a growing city so i guess anything is possible.
  4. I wish our charge nurses did all these things ya'll speak of. Our's just usually sit at the desk, check labs, make bed assignments, they only do admissions if an LVN is getting an admission (since they are not allowed to do admissions) and only help if the Nurse Manager is around. They are suppose to be the last ones out the door after shift change but I've been there plenty of times and they were gone and didn't bother to help.
  5. At the hospital I work for in Texas our nurse patient ratio is 1:5-6 depending of if we are full or not. I don't like it all our patients have multiple morbidities and it's hard. Our charge nurses are lazy and don't know how to organize the patient nurse ratio.
  6. I am an petite nurse 5'0, 95lbs. I don't even try to lift patients with out assistance. I workout a few times a week. I see nurses who weigh more than me who can't lift more than me. You will do fine. Petite nurses can fit in small spaces and I don't mind them thinking I'm to young to be a nurse that's a compliment to me. BlessedRoseRN
  7. I didn't have to sign a contract when I started my nursing job earlier this year. If i had to I wouldn't be working there now. I think alot of those contracts are unfair. A few of my friends did go somewhere and had to sign for like 2 years and if they do not fulfill the contract they will have to pay like 10-15K back for orientation. I really don't see where they are spending 10-15k in orientation for nurses.
  8. I am going part time. U can take as many as 4 classes a semester going full time and graduate in 3 semesters. I graduate May 10, so that's 4 semesters. Thanks for the luck!!
  9. I started at TWU in Spring 09 in the RN-BSN program I paid like 1500 the first semester for 2 classes and books. The credit is $158 per credit hour but they add all these extra fees, like the gym, student services, computer service etc. I like it so far and hope to get an A and B this semester. Hope this helps.
  10. I need to find examples of Benner's Theory used in clinical practice. I know alot of hospitals use it but I only found one hospital so far that has it documented and how they use it. I need a few more examples. I will try the nursing literature like u suggested. Thanks. BlessedRoseRN
  11. Hello All, I need some examples of Benner's Theory in clinical practice. I have searched and searched and have yet to find some. Can anyone recommend some sites I can use? Thanks. BlessedRoseRN
  12. I have yet to experience the smell of a GI Bleed, but if it's anything like the smell of C. Diff or worse I'm in trouble. I will have to try the Vicks under the nose.
  13. I tried breathing through my mouth and the smell just went in my mouth and it just made me sick to the stomach. I don't want to be the nurse that thinks she's better than the other nurses b/c I can't handle the smell of certain things. My mom is the same way we just don't take smells well.
  14. Hello All, I was wondering what do ya'll use to handle the awful smells of BM, Vomit, etc. I heard some use Vicks, but I don't see the rationale behind that, I thought it opens your nose more. I had a pt. with C. Diff we had to change and I almost lost my meal. I can handle looking at anything, it's just the smells that get me. Please Help!! BlessedRoseRN
