  1. Ok I work on a busy med/surg floor. We are doing primary nursing and have gotten rid of "charge nurses". Our manager posted an available job opening for a care cordinator/resource nurse. The roles are similar as far as leading, making assignments, checking charts, being a go to for Docs. So long story short. I didn't apply the first time around and only one offer was made (2 openings) Then they opened the position up again and I applied. I am sure during the interview they will ask why I choose to put an application in the 2nd time around and not the first. Here is my reasoning, please help me figure out how to word it for an interview (of course not too look bad, I need a positive spin) I wasn't sure that I was ready to jump into a leadership role as there are many other nurses on the floor that have more experince than I. Although along with that experience comes their laziness and attitude. I am a younger nurse with only 3 years behind me but I am kind, compassionate and I really do love nursing. I decided to apply because I can't help the negativity on the floor if I don't offer to step up and be a leader/example I guess in short, I was scared to apply even though others were telling me I should. I also wasn't sure if the new stress load was worth it even though I seem to naturally fall into the leadership role. How can I make this sound good, I need to focus on strengths not that I was scared lol :)

  3. How many of you still have charge nurses on the floor. I know a lot of hospitals have gotten rid of them and now use a different leadership model. If you have a resource/admit/discharge nurse please tell me how their roles differ from a charge nurse.
  4. I need some advice. My dd who is 3 has been sick for a week now. She started with a fever last Sun, then her gums were red and swollen. Tues, big sores erupted in her mouth. Ok to make a long story short, her mouth is SOOOOO bad. Now her gums are bloody and raw, both cheeks have open sores inside and she is no longer eating or drinking. Her lips are dry and cracking. She maybe has had 8 oz of fluid since yesterday morning with nothing to eat. I am really worried about her. The fever is gone. Oh I took her to the Dr. on Thur and he said is was the herpes I Virus and that it just takes time. Could it really make her mouth that bad? I am debating on taking her to the ER today because I am concerned about her becoming dehydrated. What would you guys do? Take her to the ER? wait till tomorrow? or just wait it out, her dr said they sores may last 10 days but they are MUCH worse today than they were Thus. need some advice. If I take her and she is not dehydrated, is there anything they could do? I am wondering about pain relief (I've been rotating tylenol and motrin for a week now) I'm rambling but just wondering what I should do or if anyone has had experience. Maybe these sores are typical of herpes I, maybe it something else? but what? If you read this far, thanks!
  5. I am starting the BSN program in Jan and I was trying to decide what is best for lecture notes and handouts. Do you use indivdual notebooks and folders, 3 or 5 subject notebooks or do you use a big binder? just curious as to what you all use. My classes will be: Health Assesment/Lab Health promotion Pharmocology Fundamentals/Lab Thanks!!
  6. I love in Southern Idaho and just got accepted to an RN program. A few of us are taking a day to go to Salt Lake next week to have some fun and do some shopping. I'd really like to get some nursing shoes and some other stuff for school. Any tips on stores that may be useful. Just some good all around medical supply stores? Thanks!!
