Hello,
I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.
I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.
I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.
Anyone have any advice for stethoscopes? I know most people are getting Littman's, but any particular style? And where did you guys get them?
I will be ordering the Littman Classic II SE from Medisave -- it's the cheapest online price I've found, and they offer free engraving as well. And if you "like" them on Facebook and ask for a discount code, they will message you with one. I think it's usually 5% off.
Re: our stethoscopes, how do y'all plan to carry yours to and from clinicals? I've still got mine in the box it came in and I'm wondering how fragile/sturdy it is; can it just go into a bag with all our books or does it need to be babied?
I was wondering the same thing. I fear just throwing it in my backpack/bag will compromise the integrity of the diaphragm, and cause the tubing to weaken over time. But, they could be a lot more durable than what I'm anticipating.
After a quick search, it seems that a lot of people either travel with them in the box they came in, or just throw them in their bags. No one seems to complain that it hurts the steth after long term abuse like that (although one person did advise against leaving it in your car due to the heat warping the tubing). But it appears that you can also purchase bags designed strictly for the transportation and storage of your stethoscope.
I'm taking a class there right now....I should probably look for the auditorium too! I did finally drive by "our" campus today!!! I am soooooooo excited!!! I need to have my varicella titer done and TB test and that is all....other than the drug screen.... Has anyone had the varicella titer done at the health department? If so, do they mail you the results, or do you have to pick them up?
Just FYI, I went to the health department at La Gran Plaza and was told by the employees there that they do not do titers and that I would have to go somewhere else to have it done or I can just get the vaccine. So, I went ahead and got the vaccine, but it is 2 doses which have to be at least a month apart. It was $20, and the TB test was also $20.
I also did my varciella titer at the health department (the tarrant county one right off randol mill rd) and got it back in 3 days. I had to pick it up but it was quick and easy. I did my TB test there too. Both were very cheap and well worth going to the health department for.
Maybe we should meet outside the auditorium or someplace close before orientation and then we could do lunch at the cafeteria like some mentioned. Just a thought, but that way it was would make orientation (maybe) a little more comfortable and less scary!.. I'm very anxious about it! :)
Congrats all of yours to get in to TCC Nursing Program.:yeah:
:yeah:
I remember last semester i was in your shoes right now with all exciting and little bit of nervous. When you go to the orientation, they will make you feel that it's impossible for us to make it through Foundation. Enjoy your break that you have right now and then prepare for nursing school in the fall.
I just finish my Mental Health course right now, so i have some free time. I will check this site often. If you have any questions redarding books, supplies, or any question about the foundation class, feel free to ask me.
Nursing school is not easy, but i can be done, that's how i feel. We got a very good group in our clinical. We won't got A in theory anymore, but the main thing is we're all passed and have a life.:redbeathe:lol2:
Enjoy your break right now and i have all yours have a good time
Okay, for those of you who ordered your Fundamentals of Nursing book from Majors...
On our sheet, it says to order the book with the internet access. So, I picked the book on the Majors website for $115 that says 'internet access included' or something along those lines. It also says there is an interactive CD-ROM. My book that I received today does not have a CD and I'm unsure about where this internet access is supposed to be accessed lol. What book did you guys receive?
Have you flipped through the book? Sometimes they are glued inside the front or back flap in a secure package that you have to open in order to get the CD-ROM out.
I honestly don't remember if mine did or not (although like you said, it was supposed to). I ordered all of the required textbooks from Majors, so when the package arrived it was kind of overwhelming digging through the box. I'll double check mine when I get home tonight and let you know if I have the CD-ROM or not.
