Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

Time is flying by! I'm really just working and trying to enjoy time with my family and friends before I can't anymore. I don't think they realize yet how intense this will be and how I'll be pretty non-existent for awhile.

All I have left to get done is my books. I'm slowly getting there. I chose not to do the package deal because of everything everyones said abt the skills book. I might change my mind though.. We will see.

I'm so nervous but so very excited! Apparently orientation is a TON of info and you're lucky to pick even some of it up. Lol and the drug calculation book that we all have is NOT how they teach you. My friend said it's completely different but it's good to get some practice just don't relay completely on that.

When are we doing lunch/dinner?! Are we still considering that? I was also thinking that the allnurses group could have lunch on the orientation break that we have.. Just an idea!

I think we should do lunch on orientation day or meet for coffee/breakfast before. I think this might be a better option for everyone. What do you all think?

I bought some school supplies today. I couldn't resist passing by the school aisle at walmart and not buying anything.

Ab- totally jealous that you started making notes already. You GO girl! I keep thinking about starting but at the same time I want to enjoy my time off to the max.

I'm just so worried about work and all the reading, and I have no life. My husband is busy with work, and my kids are busy with friends. So, I thought why not get started. Those objectives in th eCID are so daunting. I just spend some time in the evenings making notes.

I agree with the lunch at orientation, even if its heading down to the cafeteria, they do have a nice cafeteria.

I wouldn't mind meeting up with y'all before Orientation and hanging out with you guys during our lunch break. I don't think I'd feel comfortable trying to get to a restaurant with only an hour break and such a large group of us the day of Orientation, so like ab said, the cafeteria might be a good idea for that particular day.

I went and looked for the auditorium where the orientation will be held. I plan on getting there early and knowing where exactly I am going gives me a sense of being better prepared. So we will meet on the day of orientation before it starts or before the 18th?

I'm taking a class there right now....I should probably look for the auditorium too! I did finally drive by "our" campus today!!! I am soooooooo excited!!! I need to have my varicella titer done and TB test and that is all....other than the drug screen.... Has anyone had the varicella titer done at the health department? If so, do they mail you the results, or do you have to pick them up?

I did mine there, and I picked up the results 3 days later.

Thanks Dreamer!

Yes, I ordered the package of textbooks, the Fundamentals of Nursing book, a Tabers medical dictionay and Mosby's drug reference book all from majorsbooks.com. They should be delivered tomorrow. And I ordered the dosage calculations book and the APA format book from Amazon, which will also be delivered tomorrow. :) I can't wait to start flipping through all of them. Hopefully it doesn't freak me out too bad.

I am waiting a bit longer to pick up a diagnosis book and a care plan book. I'm going to check my local library this weekend to see what they have (if anything). I want to see if I prefer one over another, or if one is easier to understand, etc.

Dreamer- I ordered the package from Majors as well and on the reciept sent to my email, I am unable to find a tracking number on it..How did you track your package to find out when it would arrive?

They emailed a tracking # to me a day after I placed the order... but it turned out to be the wrong tracking #. The one they emailed me was for a package going to Illinois. Not sure how that happened! But I believe I had them within 3 business days from the date the order was placed.

Anyone have any advice for stethoscopes? I know most people are getting Littman's, but any particular style? And where did you guys get them?

Also, I haven't checked the orientation letter lately. The orientation is at the 'old' TR campus, not the allied health one, right?

It is at the "old" TR campus, on the fourth floor, in the energy auditorium. Its a nice auditorium. I went to a townhall meeting there in march.

I got the Littman Classic II SE.
