Tarrant County Fall 2011 Applicants

Published

Hello,

I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.

I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.

I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.

Bahhh! All of this talk about scrubs makes me want to go purchase some, but I'm trying to wait in case I lose a lot more weight and they don't fit anymore :( And as much as I used to hate those backpacks on wheels, I do believe I will be using one.

Also, I know everyone has mentioned this already for the most part, but I felt bombarded with info. So...I'll just ask again. What reference books did everyone end up purchasing? My husband and I are on a pretty tight budget, so I don't really want to buy more than I actually need.

The only reference books I have purchased so far are the Taber's Medical Dictionary and the Mosby's 2012 Nursing Drug Reference book. I am very pleased with both of them. I have not yet purchased a care plan book or a test & diagnosis book. I found some at HPB, but they were pretty outdated by several years, and I was hoping to find something a little more recent (without having to buy brand new).

I too think that I will be looking at some sort of backpack on wheels. I'm thinking that the parking lot(s) they are building for the TRE campus will not be anywhere near big enough, and I'm afraid that we'll get stuck parking at the TR campus garage on occasion. If that's the case, it will be a long trek down the 4 or 5 (?) blocks with a heavy backpack on your shoulders.

Awesome! I'll look into those. My sister recently finished nursing school, so I'm beginning to wonder if maybe she has some of those reference books still sitting around. Worth a shot, huh?

Absolutely! These books aren't cheap.

I bought my careplan book and diagnostic book at HPB, they were one edition older than the ones on our list, but I think they will work just fine. I saw the new version of the careplan book at the TR Campus bookstore yesterday and it was $43. I paid $14 at HPB. I still need the Tabers Book.

Yesterday the bookstore said some of our book packages have arrived but the rest wont be in for a couple of weeks. I can't wait.

For those of you buying the Grey's Anatomy scrubs, did y'all happen to confirm if Jade is the correct color? I would normally just go to a scrub store to check, but I'm in the plus sizes and I'm not really sure about the size selection at a retail store. Might have to get them online, but I wanted to verify the color first.

I've only purchased the top in white, so I'm unfamiliar with the colors and names for the bottoms.

As far as the reciept goes for our drug screen in a few weeks, I just paid for mine, but the receipt does not specify what I paid for... it just has the amounts (I paid for my Nurse Pack Kit and my drug screen). So, is it safe to assume that as long as it shows that I paid $35, then HOH will accept it as proof of payment? I figured they'd at least give some sort of description as to what the payments were for.

When I paid for my stuff, I had the lady type out a description for what I paid for and she printed each of them on a separate page so I can show it as proof.

Well crap.

Surely the staff at HOH is smart enough to realize what the payment was for. They'll be seeing what, 110 of these receipts afterall.

I purchased the greys tops only. I took one of my patches with me and compared it to the grey's colors and didn't really think the patch matched with any of them. I bought my pants in a different brand. I got Cherokee workwear pants. I have to return one of them because they are too big...I thought the color matched up pretty closely...but the pants are very bright teal.

So do we wear our scrubs everyday? Or is it only to clinical? Does anyone know?

I thought we only wore our scrubs to Clinicals, and "street clothes" to Skills and Foundations... but I could be mistaken. TxMommy... where are you?! :)

That's kind of what I was thinking too.
