I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.
I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.
I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.
So I'm very upset and annoyed today! I just went up to the SO bookstore to see if my name tags were in and they STILL aren't. I ordered them June 14 at 3:28 pm. Seriously????!!!
And I believe it's just on clinical days. My pants are a darker shade of teal buy still very close to the patch which my friend said is fine. She said there's a ton of different shades that your clinical group wears.
Yes scrubs are only to clinical. Regular clothes to the other classes. Most nursing school students do have a roller bag of some sort at least for the first semester when you have so much to carry and work with. After the first 2 semesters the load is lighter and ususally most everyone ditches the big bags. :)
As far as the teal color. There are so many shades that as long as the pants match the patch you will be fine. You see all shades of teal once you get in the program. No big worries there.
As far as reference books that are a must. I would say a drug book and a care plan book. Everything else is pretty hit or miss. Eventually I think in Adult I think they mention an IV drug book. I bought it and never used it. So it is a personal basis. Also as far as Tabers goes it is a hit or miss. There was a medical program that the school has for free through the library that has that kind of information for free. They will show you how to access it when you do your first paper, so see if they offer it first before you run out and get it. I used my Tabers maybe 2 times. If you have not bought a care plan book yet the professors usually have copies of different styles and they will be more than happy to let you see them and see what style you might like. Drug books are what style works for you. Same info just different layout.
When I ordered my name badge I was told they are ordered in bulk. So they dont place the order until they hit a certain number of orders. They will be in before school starts though.

Yeah.. They told me the same about ordering the names tags in bulk BUT when I ordered mine there were about 10 different orders to waiting to be sent out. So after a month, that shouldn't have been a problem! Oh well.. it will come in. I was just excited and upset that there have been people who ordered it at SO and gotten it SO much sooner. If it doesn't come in next week I'll probably go get a refund and order from Trinity because they are way more on top of their game!

I got my rolling bag. It has a laptop sleeve and is big enough (I hope) for each class day. I think I would have had to get a full size suitcase to fit everything in a any one time.
I have been getting a binder together for foundations class. I also have been going over the CID and looking at the objectives for each unit. I am making notes for each of the objectives. I hope this prepares me, but I am so nervous.
This is the first in months that we have let our thread fall to the second page. :) Where is everyone? Time is flying by, I can't believe we are almost one exact month away from orientation.
Whew! These last two weeks have FLOWN by! I have gotten so much marked off of my To Do List, but still feel like there is a ton left to do to prepare for school to start. And I am trying to enjoy this last month of freedom to the fullest!! :)
I've been trying to enjoy this month as well. We've had family in town, which has been really nice :) Also, I found out a few days ago that I got one of the TCC foundation scholarships. Pretty exciting since I can't get financial aid anymore other than loans :) I just went to finish up my vaccines this morning, so that's another thing I finally got done.

I am currently in the process of getting some reference books on Amazon, but then I noticed a book from the list that I'm missing. It's the first one...'Fundamentals of Nursing Concepts, Process and Practice.' Did you guys get that in your package or is that something we get later?

No, the Fundamentals book does not come in the packaged deal, it has to be purchased separately. I purchased my package, the Fundamentals book, a Taber's medical dictionary and Mosby's 2012 drug reference book from Majors Books in Dallas. I bought the APA format book and the dosage calculations book from Amazon.
My sister is sending me her reference books in the mail, so I'm okay with that part. But I do have to order the APA book and I guess the Fundamentals book now too. So much money!
Also, were you the one who was talking about a good deal on a stethoscope, Dreamer? I can't remember.
