  1. Have you taken the test yet? I am also studying for it and I might register to take it in October. I have been studying for months and I'm feeling kind of ready to give it a go.
  2. You don't need all the recommended books. You should get: -drug book -nursing care plan (very helpful, if you can get a couple even better, tabers is online through TCC, they will tell you how to get access to it if they haven't told you yet) -Fundamentals Success (will help you on your tests) -all the required books. Make plenty of copies of your care plans that you will find in your clinical cid. You will use one or two a week depending on the professor (15 weeks).
  3. @doodlebug jen You may want to buy all the books that they are asking you for your Fundamentals semester. You will use them all throughout the program. I just finished my 1st semester and I used all the books and we are going to keep using Lilley and Kozier for the 2nd semester. Maybe you have heard this before but it doesn't hurt to hear it again. Read, read, read. Never get behind on your reading because it will be very hard to catch up. Take your studying time serious. It will definitely show on your tests. Get used to think critically. Make yourself a favor and buy a NCLEX book when you can and study with it so you can get familiar with the type questions. I heard all these before I started and I thought I was going to be fine with the bare minimum, after my first test I hit reality pretty fast. Good luck to everybody. Be serious and have fun.
  4. Great article! I'm originally from Ecuador. I love my country but I know our public medical system needs lots of improvement. I just came back from visiting my family and I had first hand experience with a public hospital system since my grandmother was hospitalized for a couple of weeks. I didn't know who was a real nurse or someone that just received some training and was working as a nurse but have lots of experience. Since nurses are not well trained they don't feel motivated to work and I found myself looking for the nurses and begging them to give some care to my grandmother. I'm starting nursing school this fall but I was really sorry I was not a nurse while my grandmother was in the hospital. I definetely would of helped her much more than the staff at the hospital. I really don't know what kind of training people need to become a nurse in Ecuador. For what I read in your article there are Nursing Schools. Once I'm done with my studies I will look into doing some international studies in Ecuador and try to make a difference in my country.
  5. I got the cherokee scrubs too. I thought they fit me pretty good besides they were a lot cheaper than the others. I also got my books first thing this morning at TR bookstore. I asked one of the girls that work there if they knew anything about parking in the other building and she said that from what they have told them, we won't have parking space there which means we'll have to park at TR and walk to the other building which is a couple of blocks away. She also said that TCC may have shuttles but wasn't too sure about it. I guess the school will explain better during our Orientation Session. Not too excited about the parking situation. Exercise time or I may need to buy me a bicycle :)
  6. I haven't posted in forever but I read the blog everyday. I hope we get to meet for breakfast/lunch. I'm up for anything. I have done everything but buying my books yet. Can't wait to meet you all and start the program
  7. I'm in, I'm in!!!! My hubby ran home to check on the mail and even scanned to me at work :) Congrats to everybody! I'll meet you all at school.
  8. Has anybody received their big envelope yet??? I'm at work and nobody at home so I'll have to wait till I get home. Wish my dogs could read Good luck to everybody!!! I have the page pulled up at work all day.
  9. Ok, I couldn't wait any longer and I called the office and the director said letters were mailed "THIS MORNING". So... let's keep our hopes high and wait for the mailman to arrive with a big envelope for all of us tomorrow. YAY!!!
  10. If by the end of the month they haven't sent the letters I will be going to talk to TCC's dean. After all, in the Nursing Dpt website only says letters will be sent on May. It doesn't specify when in May.
  11. I support the motion to call the Dean. I don't know who this department reports to but I will be willing to even go to TCC and have a serious talk to someone. I work a couple of blocks from there and it will not be a problem for me.
  12. I called in the afternoon. Around 2 pm probably.
  13. I called yesterday and got through after calling around the whole college and talked to the Director of the Nursing program. She said that she did not know when exactly they will send the letters out because there has been a glitch. I really hope they didn't lose anybody's information due to this. She made it sound like it was a big deal. I guess we just have to wait until they send the letters out someday before school starts. Really dissapointing.
  14. lmd1679 you are right. we'll just have to wait. thanks for the good wishes. same to you all.
  15. I was accepted to the nursing program last Fall but for personal reasons I had to decline. I remember getting my package the first week of May. Hopefully this is the case this year too. I reapplied for this Fall so hopefully I get accepted again. Good luck to everyone.
