Stinky Co Worker

Published

Bless her heart, my co-worker is really stinky. She toots all day long, the most nauseating, brain cell killing gas.

She has my dog beat in terms of flatulence, and he has spent the last 10 years fine tuning his craft of clearing the room.

I don't think there's any tactful remedy for this problem, so please just pray for us that my office-mate will have her gastro problem remedied--soon!

I feel sure she knows she has it, and she is likely embarassed enough already. Just ignore it, and hope it resolves. Living with bowel problems is no fun. Embarassing her further at work by calling attention to an obvious problem could cause hurt feelings, and more work stress for both of you.

Also, they make that odor eliminating spray, that's marketed towards people with colostomies. I'm not sure what's in that bottle, i just know that i was great about getting rid of odors, yet it had no scent itself.

I know sometimes, depending on what I eat, I have those bouts of gas that I just can't hold in....and I'm only 26 and healthy!!!!!! It's not always about the person being rude. I feel for you though...I don't know how I would approach anyone like that....good luck with it.

If I were you I would confront her diplomatically; if it does not work I would compete with her by eating gas forming food do and the same thing to her as she does to me just to let her know inconsiderate she is; if it's still does not work, I would buy a fake fart bomb on Ebay -- it has really strong smell. Still doesn't work ? I would write a letter to the management or my supervisor to reassign her or me somewhere on another floor. If it still does not work, maybe I would call Oprah or Dr. PHiL for advice. Still does work? try to call Jerry Springer!! :trout:

Ha ! Ha! Ha! Sorry, this post just pushed my laughing button!

The co-worker has to know she is doing it..no one has said that she didn't.

The only thing I can figure is that she thinks hers don't stink.

How about a whoopi cushion..every time she lets one fly, squeeze the whoopi cushion... do like behavior modification

ok. . . .

I guess some of you out there haven't had issues and just can't understand that some medical conditions cause sudden uncontrolled gas. When this occurs often one cannot leave the room in time; going to the restroom does not fix the problem, sometimes medications help, sometimes they don't.

It would probably be fine to compassionately discuss this with your co-worker; I have no doubt she knows about it already. If she hasn't sought medical help; you could suggest this; it might help (might not).

In case some don't realize it resorting to behaviour modification would likely do nothing but offend and mortify your co-worker and unless this is your objective I would suggest avoiding this tactic. (to the OP; I know you didn't suggest this).

Sorry If I offended anyone sometimes humor gets the best of me and clouds my judgement but this thread is just a gas, gas, gas.

Seriously, ask her about her weight loss plan and go from there. The gas might enter the conversation and then you can give some of the tips others have given you. I know rotten feet really get to me. I feel for you and for her too if she has such bad gas. I truly think if she is able, she should try to be as considerate and polite as possible. Most women are very conscious to be polite re. this problem, but I have worked w/ a couple who just didn't have very good manners and thought it was funny. If that's the case (it doesn't sound like it is), I would tell her to go visit the bathroom when she has the need, not share her problems w/ me.

love milk but it can get the best of me and no i cannot control it every time

of course you don't get any brownie points for the ones that you do control

once i went and used the facillities and an aide came in after me...she howled and waved the air freshener and really made a fool of herself\

i told her that that was the way it was suppose to smell

 I have to say that when I gave up smoking I had the foulest gas for about two or three weeks. I knew what I was doing and so did everyone else. There was no way I could dive into the restroom every time I let one go - too fast and frequent - sorry. :chair:

Do you think she could have some kind of food intolerance? I have gluten intolerance and I had much more gas before going gluten free (and if I eat something with gluten in it the gas comes back). I know that people with lactose intolerance have told me the same thing. Maybe you could leave some info about food intolerances and gas just laying around (and hopefully she will read it). Good luck!

this is disscussing.
