Bless her heart, my co-worker is really stinky. She toots all day long, the most nauseating, brain cell killing gas.
She has my dog beat in terms of flatulence, and he has spent the last 10 years fine tuning his craft of clearing the room.
I don't think there's any tactful remedy for this problem, so please just pray for us that my office-mate will have her gastro problem remedied--soon!

Oh well, you could suggest a visit to her MD. Then there's always probiotics, and digestive enzymes from the health food store (non-medical intervention, of course).

personally I find these people obnoxious. I don't know what it is with our society these days but everyone is publically farting. I believe your co-worker can control this bodily function or at least they could go to the bathroom to expell the gas. You have done nothing wrong , why be punished by having to work in a gas chamber.

Who's saying she WANTS to publically have gas?
Perhaps she can't hold it back, perhaps they couldn't make it to the bathroom in time (I know i had this issue because of problems surrounding my gallbladder, although my co-workers were a little more understanding, wow). I don't know too many people who would be proud of holding the title "Stinky Co-worker".
Calling them obnxious is a little extreme. It doesn't sound as though the person in the OPs situation is yelling "pull my finger" and saying "HA HA HA i farted HA HA HA".
To the OP: Maybe she does have a GI disorder. If she seems like someone who can be approached about it, i'd go for it. I'm pretty sure this person is aware they have a problem if it smells that bad, and maybe they just need help finding a solution.

If she is on a low-carb diet she may be eating foods with sugar alcohols. That stuff can cause the worst gas.

I would simply DIE if I had gas around another person - especially that much.
If it were my co-worker, I'd sit down and have a polite little chat about it. If it is something she supposedly can't help, she needs to see her doc.
I am on the low-carb/high protein Atkins diet and the thing I notice is I have NO gas.

People with colostomy's don't smell as badly as people who fart openly, and people with colostomy's are alot more concerned about the odor and discomfort they may be causing others. I am sorry but I do not think there is any excuse for some to continually sit in a room and fart because theyare too lazy to get up off their a** and go to the bathroom. Next thing they will be defecating in the corner because they can't help that either. No respect for others no human pride.

And who said she's doing this, though, "because they are too lazy to get up off their ***"?

i notice less gas with a natural low carb lifestyle, but someone bought me a box of sugar free chocolates when we were going to the movies and...the gas was so plentiful immediate I had to spend the movie in the restroom. those sugar alcohols are no joke!
I think some of the sugar free chocolates come with a warning label now. Apparently they received complaints.

I think working with her you have a right to ask politely "I noticed you have a lot of gas, is that normal for you?" Bound to get a conversation started...
Then as she aerosolizes her odors you can keep a can of air freshener and make some pfffts of your own. The only way to deal with it and keep your sanity is with humor.
