What is the average starting salary of an RN?

It really depends on where you live and now IF you can find a New Grad RN job... sadly.:crying2:

$22/hr for my hospital

Keep in mind that is because cost of living in california is INSANE!!!

So, true. It takes two RN salaries to be able to buy a house in the SF Bay area . . . and that was before the banks became strict about lending. I bought my house way back in the day . . . I could never afford to buy my own house today, even with my current income (how about $850,000 for a 1600 sq ft ranch style home?! and this is down from the peak prices during the recent speculative insanity).

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU, educator.

So are most 1 income family nurses in Cali renting or just buying condos?

Specializes in CDI Supervisor; Formerly NICU.

21.50 base pay + 3.00 for noc + 1.00 for weekends, new grad nurse, south Texas.

Is that the San Antonio region. I was thinking about moving there...

In Northern IL (not the suburbs).

As a new grad, I started out 23.05 base pay for working days. I moved to nocs. For the first 4 hours at work I got a 17% shift differential and for the the next 8 hours I get a 20% shift differential.

$26.96 First 4 hours

$27.67 Last 8 hours

If your looking for the big bucks, do your nursing in Minnesota. If you want the least pay, go to Hawaii.

No, south of there in the stinky old Rio Grande Valley.

All depends. If they are new RN's, they're most likely renting but if they've been RN's for a long time, they probably bought their home when home prices were affordable.

Specializes in SRNA.

I live in the Tri-Cities in south-east WA state and new graduates at my facility start at $25.99/hr with $3.50 night and $3.50 weekend differential. Add $1.00 for BSN and another $1.00 when/if you have your specialty certification. So, a new BSN RN working nights makes from $30.49 on weekdays to $33.99 on weekends.

In Chicago, IL it's about $25/hr if you are lucky.

If you leave Chicago and go to burbs, lucky at starting at $23. Outside of Chicago and burbs I have no idea.

You got to be kidding me..."if you lucky" At each interview I went I found that usual pay rate is 26 dollars per hours plus 2,4,6 dollars diff.BTW I'm from Chicago.

If two RN are making about $180000 and after taxed and benefits and retirement plan a it about $100000 a year net. ( if they work at the VA Hospitals and Kaisers Pay well) Then the cost of living each month most be $8700.00 a month. It would be smart to carry disability insurances . Is it really worth buying a house that size for $850000? When in Florida a 2 RN can make $120000 a year net after all deductions ( No State tax) and buy a a house a 2400 SQ Foot Home for180000.00 brand new the cost of living about $5800.00 a month ( Property taxes and a whole lot more are cheaper). The Sterling Report web site will tell you the cost of Living and Quality around the good old USA. I would love to live in the SF area but as housing cost as mention is insane. Now that 1 out of every 7 homes are going into foreclosure you might me able to get something cheaper in SF that will most likely need work. Good Luck on Finding a RN position of your dreams.
