skirts

No, I do not wear a skirt.

I am relpying becaue one of our "admit nurses" does.

We have almost 4000 nurses at the hospital and she is the only one I have seen in a skirt (certainly I have not seen all 4000). I am not sure why she wears one, but am fairly certain it is not for religious reasons.

Since i am the DON, I don't wear scrubs anymore but casual clothes. When I was still working the floor, I wore mainly uniform skirts and dresses (white). I found them more comfortable as it was hard to find long enough pants for myself with cuffs on the bottom. I wear a tall and larger size of clothing. Very seldom did i see others wearing anything but pants and a scrub top.

What's a skirt?

I'd like to wear a skirt (if they made any cute ones)...

I've been in health care for the last decade. Back in the day when I first started (mid 80's), all the nurses wore skirts. The last time I was working in LTC (left in '95) there was onlyone nurse on my shift that would wear skirts or dresses.

Hadn't seen a skirt on a nurse since that time, until I laid eyes on Mrs R who was a clinical instructor. She had white on from head to toe. White blouse, white skirt, white hose, white shoes, white sweater. And she always wore skirts, I never once saw her wear pants, or a set of scrubs. She is the only nurse I've seen since that wore a skirt. I'm pretty sure religous reasons aren't the reason she wears skirts.

I'm saying no nurses in skirts but am referring to floor nurses. I've seen a lot of DNS and ADNS wearing skirts though.

I dont wear skirts but I am chiming in because my son had an adorable peds nurse that did. She was young and by all accounts "hip" cute hair and make up, so I dont think it was for religouse reasons, I told her how cute her skirt was and she said she finds them more comfortable than pants....If I had her cute shape I may wear one, but for now I find scrubs comfortable and forgiving...

I would definitely wear skirts at work if I could get away with it without my co-workers picking on me. As it stands, I'd probably be laughed right off the unit (unfortunately).

Our uniforms are provided by the Trust, we can wear either scrubs (ICU) or dresses, or tunic/trousers. Almost everyone seems to wear the trousers, few wear dresses.

I wore the dress a couple of times and didn't feel at all comfortable, so went back to scrubs. Plus we are expected to wear an elasticated belt, and epaulettes with the dress .

I wear skirts as well as scrub bottoms. I'm fat and short so the skirts fit more easily and are more comfortable. They look really dorky with my tennis shoes but I'm at a point in my life I don't give a flip what people think about how I look, so that's good. They are nursing skirts, I forget the name of the company I ordered them from.

when i started, everyone wore white polyester dresses and white hose. then came the skirts with colored blouses. they were a nice change, but now that i'm in scrubs i can't imagine going back! too much squatting, bending, lifting, etc. for modesty!

I've worked with Pentacostal nurses/MAs etc who wore skirts due to religion. Up north I worked with a young woman who would occasionally wear a white skirt with socks and tennis shoes in the summer......she said it was cool and comfortable. Last summer I worked per diem at a local nursing home for some extra $, there was an agency nurse who I believe always wore a skirt.....not sure of her reason for doing so. Personally I'll stick with scrub pants! :-)
