I'm finally going to be on the floor after 2 wks of orientation.
Panera has these awesone pink ribbon bagels(in honor of breast CA awareness month) that they only sell in October of each year' Honestly, stores sell out before noon becasue they are that good.
Would it be "smarmy" to bring bagels the very first day?
I think it's up to you! I personally wouldn't do it but I'm usually very reserved when I'm in a new work environment. I would prefer to get a feel for the culture of the place. I would be afraid people would judge me right off the bat or be wary of me. But those are my own issues.
If YOU are confident with your choice and if you have an enthusiastic personality, and maybe make a statement like "bagels for everyone, thanks for bearing with me on my first day," I could understand that. Although....some people could perceive that as attention-getting, or an "all about me" personality....there are just a lot of ways that this nice gesture could be perceived as odd, and could lead to drama. And in my opinion, the less drama in the workplace, the better.
I say No i would wait. Your first day it might seem nice to break the ice but some Nurse's might think what are you trying to do. ( Know what i mean) Best wait test the waters then suggest hey Panera Bread has breast cancer awareness bagels if i bring in bagels would that be ok. Or maybe even make a joke if the subject comes up you can say I'll bring the bagels. Then when you do bring them they are not taken off guard. Congrats on your first day. Good Luck to ya ! These are my Thoughts use them are you wish...

Do people really read so much into a gesture as simple as bringing a treat to some co-workers? It's just bagels, not a diamond tennis bracelet.
