Why are you asking a bunch of strangers on the internet?

OK, just kidding. Wondering why people ask total strangers on the internet for advise regarding major life changes. I don't want to name names, but a lot of people come to this site and ask questions better answered by people closer to the situation...

Would have been interesting if you had quit your job, sell the house, move to the Big Island of Hawaii and bought a house on Hilo Bay the day before Hurricane Iselle destroyed it.

People do this on other Internet forums that I lurk on also. I don't really understand why people think a stranger on the internet can make a very personal life changing decision for them. We can share similar experiences, but that's about it. In the end if someone is considering a move to Hawaii/quitting their job/becoming a Buddhist then they either will or they won't. These posters would be a lot better off asking close friends/family for that kind of input.

Oh well.

Oh, you can't do any of those things unless you agree to take me and my dog along with you on the way to Hawaii. The owner of this website, Brian himself, said so. I think. Err, he implied that. Yes, yes. Now how many weeks notice did you give at the job and how much are you listing the house for? Does your husband snore? Gotta know that for the trip to Hawaii. I want to come prepared.

No notice. Forget the house. Just go. You can go to a non-American country so the subsequent foreclosure won't hurt you. By the time that happens, you'll have transferred your nursing license and all will be well with the world. Maybe go to Guam? Do they speak much English there?

Btw, I have many, many resources to back up this well reasoned idea and if you question me, I will demand you show proof otherwise. I will also accuse you of bullying and roll my eyes at your crusty old batness.

P.S. I need medical advice. My foot just fell off and there is a rotten smell. If I just put some Epsom salt on it, will it heal in time to go to a tractor pull on Saturday?

Oh, and I got fired for posting a picture of my patient on Facebook. PLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZ HALP!!!! What should I DOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Is this the good pop up?

Jeff Goldblum is judging you.

(Your grammar. Not your question.)

Sometimes posters ask the life altering questions here, as their friends and family HAVE given them good and sound advice--that they have no intention of taking.

Forums have a way of getting lots of opinions--and at least one of the 5000+ people who are reading and posting at any given time WILL agree with the OP, justifying the point.

And for those who disagree--the OP can continue to argue a point from now until eternity and Long after the point when friends or family are really all set.

My personal favorite:

"is the Main Street USA nursing school hard?" "How hard is the TEAS?"

Well, how can any of us answer that? What's your IQ? Do you know how to study? Did you pass high school algebra?

OMG you guys, nurses are supposed to be compassionate, never ever judgmental, paragons of virtue who want nothing more than to help others! How dare you make fun of people trying to get advice from you?! You all are horrible people, I'm sure you're all horrible nurses too! You should all just get another job or retire!

They just want advice from people who has no dog in the fight. If I were to ask a question like that to my mother, she would say no. Because of course she would want me to stay. Giving strangers my situation who are unbiased, may make me think twice about the situation and make me look at things at all angles.

Plus, some people don't have somebody they could confide in. So it's not cute to make fun.
