So I'm officially starting nursing school tomorrow, no more gen Ed's, finally!! Anyway, I've been putting off buying shows because I don't know what type of leather I Should buy of dansko. Oiled or cabrio?? Which will hold up the best?
This is an interesting thread. I was curious too! I have a pair of Dansko's that I have owned for quite a while. They actually make my feet hurt, but they are not the professional kind. Has anyone experienced this?
I had some classmates say the same thing. Some people can wear Danskos and some can't... I personally have five pairs so obviously I'm one of the people who can. In fact, I rarely wear anything else ever because nothing is as comfortable as those shoes for me.
I already knew I liked them so I bought a pair of Dansko Professionals in white for nursing school. They were the only shoes I ever used for clinicals.

White type of leather did you buy? Did the white get dirty??
I recommend Esquire leather "dye", not white show polish, to keep white shoes white. Esquire Leather Dye Kit It isn't for patent leathers but it is good for other white smooth leathers. It also paints over things like colored logos pretty well, too, in case you need to paint over a stripe or a logo.
no affiliation with that web site -- I just linked it so that you'd all know what product I am talking about. Many shoe repair shops sell it or the Tarrago dye. Tarrago is popular with roller derby skaters. I have only used Esquire because it's sold locally but Tarrago might actually be better.

I just had the regular white leather, not patent, and it got filthy. A neat trick I learned pretty quickly is that the hospital saniwipes (their brand name, but the general wipes you use to disinfect, not the bleach ones) take the scuff marks out instantly. It's great.
It's all preference and you have to find what works for you. I'd recommend that before you buy anything you try them on first and get a feel for them.
I have a pair of white Nikes with custom inserts from my chiropractor. I have wide flat feet with terrible ankles and hips. Danskos were terribly painful for me and I felt unstable after 5 minutes of trying them on. I need the support tennis shoes give me around ankle. i felt less secure in them than I do in 4 inch heels.
I had Nurse Mates Bryar, hoping that the heel height would help with plantar fascitis, but they ended up keeling the balls of my feet, I hated them. They looked good, and were easy to clean. I have a pair of skechers work clogs, several of my classmates do as well and we really like them, also easy to keep clean. I think my favorites so far are actually a pair of Asics walking shoes.

I bought Timberland Pro Renova shoes in white. For my program I have to have all white (even the soles) and absolutely no mesh. I have shoe "issues," I guess. I tried on Nurse Mates but I didn't like them, but once I put these on I was like whoa, I might wear these everywhere. And I like that they look professional. I start in the fall, so I won't know until then if they really work for my footsies.
So what do you use to clean these types of shoes?
