scrubs or business casual

Published

I'm wondering...what all of you wear while working in an educational setting? I have seen some who wear scrubs, some who wear a scrub or lab jacket over business casual, and some who wear only business casual.

I wear Grey's Anatomy scrubs. They are a little more fitted as well. I am wearing solid navy with a scrub top and a scrub jacket.

And rainbow leopard Danskos.

Hmmm, maybe I could try 5 sets of rainbow leopard Danskos.....

In studies, the public's opinion of nurse scrubs is not as positive as nurses' opinions (Fletcher, 2007; Takase, Maude, & Manais, 2006):

most dressed in scrubs, old running shoes and clogs that are not as professional looking,"

…(A)ll layers and hoodies, …too casual.

53% reported nurses did not look professional in scrubs in comparison to 95% of nurses

Who else wears scrubs today outside the hospital?

Lunch ladies

janitors (the name of the cleaning crew company at O'Hare is "Scrubs", and they wear scrubs)

factory workers who work on the production lines

prisoners

Can anyone else name others?

Business casual, a little more on the casual side. Dark jeans and nice top the majority of the time. I wear basically what most of the teachers wear. I find it to be one of the perks of the job, too, since I have never been a huge scrubs fan.

scrubs every day :nurse:

"Professional" should be determined by what your profession is - as such, I find scrubs perfectly professional for nurses and other medical personnel, no matter where they are working. It helps identify me to parents and the little-little ones. I am NOT a teacher, and do not want to dress like one!

Plus, comfy, cheap, and able to be bled or puked on without it ruining them - as many others have already said.

Interesting! And I kinda agree sometimes - some people I see in stores in scrubs look pretty grungy, and not just the "I had a long day grunge".

I started out the year in scrubs and staff complimented me on it here and there - and I liked that people could tell I was the nurse. Now I prefer to just wear dark jeans and a nice top from target with flats or low profile sneakers with my lanyard badge. I also go off what the teachers wear, but will not be wearing shorts and flip flops when it warms up!

Scrubs M-Th, jeans Fri. Every now and again I'll change it up and go business casual but it always throws off the kids and staff.

Scrubs. I do the spirit friday wear if I feel like it. I do try to coordinate the colors of scrubs for holidays, or wear theme scrubs. I bought new tennis shoes to just feel like im doing something new! :sneaky:

Why don't you think about it and get back to us?

Pressed and coordinated scrubs with a lab coat during winter. I'm not interested in ruining my business clothes (like would have happened today with a vomiting incident - I was just short of a ninja move away), having anything that grows in a petri dish invading them, or looking like everyone else. I am loving OldDude's attire though. Will be giving that some serious thought. Of course accessories will be key :-)
