scrubs or business casual

Published

I'm wondering...what all of you wear while working in an educational setting? I have seen some who wear scrubs, some who wear a scrub or lab jacket over business casual, and some who wear only business casual.

My partner and I both wear business casual with the occasional scrub pant thrown in for comfort! We have a small school and the students know who we are when they see us in the hallways. In fact, sometimes faculty has stated that they wonder if something bad happened if they see us walking in the hallway upstairs. We are usually found in our offices with kiddos and paperwork!

Well as tired as I am of scrubs they sure are convenient! Pockets! No dress shoes required. Easy to wash and easy to get ready in the morning! I'm in the market for some new scrubs (decided to just stick with them for all the above reasons plus I forgot how much I was asked "Are you the nurse?" when I didn't wear them-lol!). However, do most of you wear prints or solids on a daily basis? I usually wear prints but thinking of switching to solids except for some holiday prints. It just seems like they don't look as nice as long, like they fade quicker or something. Maybe not as professional too-not sure. What do you think? Either way, need new scrubs.

I need new scrubs too. I wear solid. I'm not a prints fan, but then again I am a HS nurse. I think younger kids may like prints. Sorry, Blue Moon, forgot what age kids you have!

Whoa, HazelLPN, you are hardcore!

I've had grade school for years but may be moving up to middle school. If I am I'll do mostly solids except for holidays.

Way to go Hazel! I think nurses have lost looking as professional as they used to although personally I never liked wearing hats.

In my day, the cap was something that we worked hard for and were proud of. I've always worn my cap except for about a month back in the 80s when the cap started to go out of fashion and we were encouraged to wear scrubs in the ICU. I just never felt right about wearing them and resumed my whites and my cap. I'm not stuck in the 50s mind you, not everything we did back then was good....but as long as I'm in nursing I'll never give up my cap.

i wear business casual. I would feel uncomfortable in scrubs with everyone else in "normal" clothes. I work at the high school but some other nurses in the district wear scrubs, and some wear street clothes
