I'm wondering...what all of you wear while working in an educational setting? I have seen some who wear scrubs, some who wear a scrub or lab jacket over business casual, and some who wear only business casual.
I wear scrubs Mon-Thurs and jeans with a school shirt on Fridays. I tried out "business wear" one year but it just seemed to really confuse the students. Plus, the new students had a hard time identifying me as the nurse, even when I was sitting in the Nurse's Office!! So I've went back to scrubs and plan to stay that way. I do, however, intend to freshen up my scrub lineup with some scrub dresses (they come in pretty colors now) with some funky tights and Danskos this fall. We'll see how that goes
We're not even allowed to wear scrubs... We can only wear business casual... In my school, staff is allowed to wear jeans on Fridays, so I def take advantage of that. I do miss donning my scrubs though. Would save me a lot of time having to figure out what to wear each morning:sniff:
Yes! That's the second thing I most love about scrubs. #1 is comfort. #2 is not thinking about what to wear.

Yep, yep, yep.
I wear scrubs for all of the reason previously mentioned on this thread. I also love, love the pockets. The number of time I have to chase a kid down for a scheduled med/etc, I like the pockets.
I wear funky colored Toms with my scrubs and do go for the more fitted professional looking scrubs. I do, however, have some printed tops to match some school spirit days and/or holidays. Gotta love those Halloween scrubs tops!
Scrubs and sneakers. Sometimes I wear scrub pants and a fleece vest/long sleeved shirt to shake things up a bit. (Crazy, I know. I am a wild woman!!) The last Friday of each month the staff at my school (high school) wear college themed apparel, so I will wear my college sweatshirt that day. The staff at my school wear anything from jeans and t-shirts (usually school themed) to business casual. It's a pretty laid back atmosphere here.
I only began school nursing this past November, but I wear scrubs. The middle and high schoolers that I work with are all mentally ill and/or emotionally disabled (oppositional defiant, schizophrenia, bipolar, and even some convicted sex offenders). There are take-downs and restraints...I end up crawling around on the floor after there's a particularly rough encounter. I love wearing scrubs though and everyone knows that I'm "the nurse". It's so true that nursing is the most trusted profession...these kids have significant trust issues, but warm right up to me. Because of the scrubs, there is a visible difference between what my role at school is and what everyone else's role is. I have around 3 weeks worth of different tops and am always looking for new characters. Most of my co-workers tell me they have "scrub envy" lol. I also wear nice nursing shoes, not tennis shoes, which, I think, gives me a more professional look.
Well as tired as I am of scrubs they sure are convenient! Pockets! No dress shoes required. Easy to wash and easy to get ready in the morning! I'm in the market for some new scrubs (decided to just stick with them for all the above reasons plus I forgot how much I was asked "Are you the nurse?" when I didn't wear them-lol!). However, do most of you wear prints or solids on a daily basis? I usually wear prints but thinking of switching to solids except for some holiday prints. It just seems like they don't look as nice as long, like they fade quicker or something. Maybe not as professional too-not sure. What do you think? Either way, need new scrubs.
I work with young students so I choose to wear cute pediatric themed scrubs. With the germs, body fluids, and accidents that my little ones have, scrubs made the most sense. Plus having to get down on their level it just seems more appropriate to be in kid friendly clothing that allows for bending and stooping without my behind hanging out and blowing in the wind. In scrubs I'm also easy to identify as the school nurse.
