Diabetes Documentation
Hello everyone! NYC school nurses are expected to use a log titled "Diabetes Documentation Form" but some nurses think it could use improvement, so I've been wondering what other nurses have been using. Do you use a specific log for tracking of all diabetes documentation/treatments? Do you find that it's useful? Is there anything you would change? TIA

School Nurse Newsletter
If all I had to do was one small section, I would probably put something about flu season as well, even something about cold vs flu because parents and school staff think EVERYTHING is the flu when winter rolls around.

School Nurse Newsletter
Lucky you! I feel that as the years go buy, admin looks for mor e stuff for me to do . Sounds good! I'll try to round up a few things and pick at them for relevant information. I like decorating my bulletin board with a theme related to the time of the year (if that makes any sense), so maybe i'll take that route with the newsletter.

School Nurse Newsletter
No paper being used here... We email almost everything. But I love the idea of using links! Maybe we can do that on our school's website. Thanks, Flare. :)

School Nurse Newsletter
Hi fellow nurses! It's been a while since I've been here. Hope you're all doing well. I come asking for some assistance... My school's admin would like to send out a newsletter from the school nurse, touching on topics like nutrition (eating breakfast, taking vitamins, healthy food choices) and cold/flu season. Have any of you ever done this? What would you put in your newsletter? TIA

New Year, Same Stuff.
Whoa I haven't been here in forever! But these kids are already annoying me with their fake illnesses lol. And I just had a kid call home because of a stomachache/general abd pain. Mom came to pick her up and asked if we could call an ambulance for her so she could be seen quicker at the hospital. Lord give me patience.

How much time for break?
Still here too... currently trying not to spaz out on the nonsense walk-ins that keep coming through my door... woooooosaaaaaah

Is it just me?
Is it just me or do stomachache complaints annoy others as well??? I work at a middle school, so think about kids ages 11-14. Not even 10 mins into Monday school day and I have a child c/o stomachache. Then I get another one the next hour. I took him to the more quiet bathroom and guess who feels much better after using it?! 5 mins after I get rid of him, another one comes c/o of... guess what... a STOMACHACHE. Winter break needs to get here already cuz I'm about to explode.

NYC DOH School Nurse - Anyone get start date after April interview day?
Woohoo! Congrats, and welcome to the party! I am a NYC school nurse. I work under the Dept. of Education, but was oriented alongside DOH school nurses. I went through orientation back in 2013. When I was hired the orientation process was about a month and a half long. You'll watch a bunch of power point presentations and eventually be sent to a school to precept. When that's all done and over with, they send you to your assigned school, but I was given my assigned school before orientation so maybe they changed things around. If you have any questions, you can always PM me :)

You is Tired, You is Broke, You is a School Nurse !
I am sooooo over this year... I received a rude remark from a staff member here yesterday and I've been working on diffusing myself and avoiding all contact with her at the moment. I've also been getting back-to-back med room visits... It's so busy in here!!!

How often did YOU see the school nurse?
We didn't have a school nurse in my K-8 school. Our health/PE teacher who was also a secretary was the one who took care of us when we were sick. I remember several visits in 2nd grade because I used to get really bad headaches. She would put a cold paper towel on my forehead, loosen my hair, and call my parents to pick me up. When I ended up getting glasses, I never went back. In HS, I only went to the nurse once because I didn't feel well (but still not sick enough to have to go home) and knew I could whine my way out of school with my dad lol.
