Scrubs: All solid, or mix and match/prints?

Published

So this is incredibly insignificant and irrelevant, but I'm wondering, if you don't have a "dress code" (ie have to wear a certain color scrubs) what do you wear? All solids, or mix and match, or print tops?

Of all of my worries about starting on Monday I'm actually concerned about what to wear. I know, probably a completely dumb concern. (I guess I just want to fit in) I originally was supposed to work at a different hospital and they required a certain color scrubs for the dept I was working in (solid royal blue) So I purchased them, and this is all I have. Next week I can get some more, but for now thats basically it. Where I'm actually ending up working has no particular requirements for scrubs and I'm somewhat concerned about looking ridiculous in my solid blues if everyone always wears prints.

I know, I know. Insignificant and dumb in the scheme of things, and trust me I'm worried/nervous about everything there is to be worried/nervous about thats important. So help me out here and tell me what you think, please. Will I look ridiculous and should try to buy a printed top or something tomorrow? And what do you wear?

We wear "grey's anatomy" blue scrubs. On my unit we dont wear prints, but I think that is because it is the ICU. The people in Peds wear cute tops for the kids. I have seen some nurses wear print jackets. For the most part it is blue scrubs and a white coat. I think it is more professional for the adult care areas myself.

I'm a fan of solid anything. Print tops should be for Peds/ Psych/ LTC and that's about it.

The calming effect of little zebras and elephants loses points with normal, thinking adults. Actually, it is very condescending.

All white scrubs rock! Royal blue and teal come in later. Black is obnoxious and self interested (funeral colors).

All of this may not be true in your world, just my take.

It varies were I work but I wear mostly solids: ceil blue and navy. I have a few prints but I like not having to think of what to wear.

More and more people are wearin the neon colors. That is one thing I would NEVER wear. Gives me a headache.

Where do you get that wearing black scrubs is obnoxious? I wear black pants almost constantly, because they look neat and professional.

No dress code where I work. And absolutely anything goes. I've seen it all!

Personally, what do I wear? Solid tops with solid pants (and, come to think of it, NEVER a fully-matched set, lol!). I also wear print tops, but I go out of my way to find TASTEFUL stuff: I don't do cartoons, or loud gaudy prints I would be embarrassed to be seen in outside of the hospital. And, I sometimes wear all whites.

I think management is just glad I show up clothed !

Ok,I gotta say this..where I work some of the employees dress all

hoochie mama..thong underwear showing above their pants when they

sit(seen alot of butt cracks I never wanted to see).Scrubs so skin

tight I wonder how in the world they move to work.Scrub pants too long

the bottoms get walked on and ragged and dirty..yuk

In my opinion so tacky and unprofessional.

i wear solid color scrub pants with a polo shirt or t shirt in a coordinating color. if you're worried about looking ridiculous in your royal blue, throw in a white t-shirt, black polo or whatever.

In the floor I work now most people wear whatever. A lot of solid colors from Urbane Scrubs (I love them!). Different styles all over.

When I move to the LDRP they provide you with scrubs. Purple ones.

No insult intended; sorry if it came across that way. What I am speaking of is black tops/ bottoms. To me, and maybe only me, that combo makes people look like ninja extras on a movie set or, especially in LTC, early arrivals at the funeral.

Seems to be a new fashion statement in my neck of the woods.

At my previous hospital we had to wear navy blue pants with white tops embroidered with the hospials logo and our job title. When I moved to my current job which has no specific dress code I bought some print tops to match the navy pants. Now a few months into the new job I have bought different colored pants and brighter colored print tops that express my personality more. I have had alot of positive comments from my patients. Everyone on my floor wears different things some wear solids and some wear prints, I think it just depends on what you are comfortable wearing.

I have one set of black scrubs and the only day that I wore them as a set, I did feel like I should have the matching eye mask, or a sword. But I felt more like the Dread Pirate Roberts than a ninja. :D
