1. Dang! I wasn't going to say anything, but I took A&P II in 5 1/2 weeks. I got the usual "A", but I'm telling you nursing school is different. I get "B 's" now and I'm working harder than I ever did. Study hard!
2. Welcome to the jungle! :) Flash cards, coffee and quiet are your friends.
3. No heavy chem! And that was only if your experience was limited like my own. Good luck and I know you will succeed!
4. I did the same thing just to see what I was getting into. As a matter of fact, that's how I found allnurses.com. If you're really motivated and want something to do, get a book on introduction to chemistry (if that's an area you don't have much experience in) and study up on cell biology. You'll thank me when you get to the Krebs cycle and fluids & electrolytes.
5. The most important thing about A&P? I would have to say learn it well and give it your all, because there isn't enough time in nursing school for more than a quick refresher when tackling the copious reading. They assume you know it and you'll have more important (or at least different) priorities that need your immediate attention. For review, I would have loved to have had a better grasp of biology on a cellular level entering A&P.
6. May 1, 7:26 PM It didn't take long for scam artists to start cashing in on the Swine Flu craziness. Today the federal government released the alert below warning there's NO vaccine, cure or medication for the virus and if someone tries to sell you otherwise, tell them they're a swine! The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission are alerting the public to be wary of Internet sites and other promotions for products that claim to diagnose, prevent, mitigate, treat or cure the 2009 H1N1 (Swine Flu) influenza virus. The agencies are also advising operators of offending Web sites that they must take prompt action to correct and/or remove promotions of these fraudulent products or face enforcement action. "Consumers who purchase products to treat the novel 2009 H1N1 virus that are not approved, cleared or authorized by the FDA for the treatment or prevention of influenza risk their health and the health of their families," said Michael Chappell, acting FDA Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs. "In conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission, the FDA has developed an aggressive strategy to identify, investigate, and take regulatory or criminal action against individuals or businesses that wrongfully promote purported 2009 H1N1 influenza products in an attempt to take advantage of the current flu public health emergency." http://www.examiner.com/x-1893-News-You-Can-Use-Examiner~y2009m5d1-Fake-Swine-Flu-vaccine-and-medication-warning
7. A&P II seemed easier, but I think that's because learning how to study for A&P was a constantly evolving process in A&P I. I finally found an efficient and effective way to do it by the end of the term - and carried that into A&P II.
8. No vaccine has been developed yet and it appears to have spread to new locations by travel. Mutated strains are a big concern too.
9. I can see how that read and apologize for my apparent lack of compassion. Triage nurses will be challenged to identify acuity if they are inundated. The potential problems worry me.
10. 14 mins ago GENEVA - The World Health Organization has raised its pandemic alert for swine flu to the second highest level, meaning that it believes a global outbreak of the disease is imminent. WHO says the phase 5 alert means there is sustained human to human spread in at least two countries. It also signals that efforts to produce a vaccine will be ramped up. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090429/ap_on_re_eu/swine_flu_world Y2K part II? Special hugs to ED nurses. I sense some self-diagnosing coming around the bend in large numbers.
11. This is fantastic! I'm gonna' Tom Cruise this in the mirror later.
12. Hello fellow nursing students! We had an assignment for fluids & electrolytes and I drew hypermagnesemia - I know, vanilla. Anyhow, I just got the grade back............100% from this presentation.
13. Our first clinical rotation was LTC and the skills labs were focused on basic client care at that time, so we did a lot of baths, ADL assistance and bedmaking then. I haven't done much of that since. 0630-1330 is like most of the others for me, although I have OB over the summer which will be 12 hr clinical days.
14. This isn't advice, but an example of another way of looking at it. Have I turned in a cheater? Yes, in a heartbeat. Why? Because I don't want them in the same pyxis as me. They've demonstrated they are more than capable of being deceitful. This only happened once and I thought about it long and hard and it boiled down to this: if I'm aware of cheating and don't report it, I'm part of the lie. I never saw the person again after that day.
