Scrubs: All solid, or mix and match/prints?

Published

So this is incredibly insignificant and irrelevant, but I'm wondering, if you don't have a "dress code" (ie have to wear a certain color scrubs) what do you wear? All solids, or mix and match, or print tops?

Of all of my worries about starting on Monday I'm actually concerned about what to wear. I know, probably a completely dumb concern. (I guess I just want to fit in) I originally was supposed to work at a different hospital and they required a certain color scrubs for the dept I was working in (solid royal blue) So I purchased them, and this is all I have. Next week I can get some more, but for now thats basically it. Where I'm actually ending up working has no particular requirements for scrubs and I'm somewhat concerned about looking ridiculous in my solid blues if everyone always wears prints.

I know, I know. Insignificant and dumb in the scheme of things, and trust me I'm worried/nervous about everything there is to be worried/nervous about thats important. So help me out here and tell me what you think, please. Will I look ridiculous and should try to buy a printed top or something tomorrow? And what do you wear?

How sweet...now off to sweet nurse dreams.:nurse:

This might sound funny, but one of the first things that appealed to nursing for me was all the cute scrubs I saw the nurses wearing at the restaurant when I was a waitress. They would come in on their lunch break and I would joke to my friend that I wanted to become a nurse so I could wear them too. Don't worry, that's not the only reason anymore! lol

Anyway, I like the idea that I can express my personality with prints, but I think solids are cute too. What's more important imo is that they fit well.. not too tight, too long, etc. I do find it amusing though that I love the cute print/character tops, but in my usual clothes, most of my tops are solid colors. lol

I care about the colors and such while I'm picking them out or washing them, I really hate to see things get faded on. While actually at work, I care about being able to keep my undershirt tucked into my pants, not tripping over my pants, not freezing my butt off, not having my underwear ride up, and not getting body fluids on my scrubs.

So it's solids for me because my two gorgeous print tops are gone. One wasn't made for women, tight in the bust and I ripped the underarms out. The other was shat on by an end stage liver patient who was on lactulose. I just could not bear to put that stuff in my washing machine so in the trash the top went. Now I gown up for lactulose patients, whether or not I can smell it. Oh, and I like white tops, and found out that Oxyclean will get charcoal out of white!

I tend to wear mostly prints. It's just what I like. I also own and am going to look into owning more solid color tops as well.

What you wear really doesn't matter as long as you show up and your scrubs don't smell bad.

i can see it now, print scrubs with fezzik, vizzini & inigo....

my 2 favorite bits that can actually be worked into conversation:

"now, mostly dead is slightly alive. now, all dead... well, with all dead, there's usually only one thing that you can do."

"what's that?"

"go through his clothes and look for loose change."

"let me explain. no, there is too much. let me sum up."

and so as not to hijack the thread, i'll be wearing all white as i already have 'em from my externship and clinicals.

My wife and I take a lot of road trips. Every time she sees a sign like "detour ahead" or "construction ahead", I have to hear:

If there are, we'll all be dead.

No more rhymes now, this time I mean it.

Anybody want a peanut?

EDIT: I have to wear ugly ceil blue right now, but hopefully I can wear a more neutral color when I get a job. Black, brown, dark green, whatever.

personally, i feel that if you are like me and spend at least 12 hours of your day in your scrubs, why not have some fun (or not) and express yourself! i wear mostly solids because in my regular dress, i'm not much of a print person but that doesn't mean i haven't seen some cool prints. if they are tasteful, coordinated, clean, and pressed it's tough not to look professional. plus, everyone knows you perform your best and your confidence is higher when you feel good about your appearance. there are some exceptions to the rule, but for the most part it's true. who wants a doubtful, un-confident nurse?

if they weren't so hard to maintain, i might wear all whites. blue does look "important" like they do on tv but, honestly, blues (navy, ciel, etc) get boring for me after awhile. just because i'm a nurse doesn't mean i can't be professionally stylish!

finally, i will add this: i often get mistaken for much younger than i am and wearing printed scrubs enhances that. younger often equates to some as being auxillary staff and not the nurse. not that they aren't important too, but this is also part of the reason i wear mostly solids.

be true to you!

ahaa!! is that the secret? well then, i'll have to wear only prints from now on! :D
