Scrubs: All solid, or mix and match/prints?

So this is incredibly insignificant and irrelevant, but I'm wondering, if you don't have a "dress code" (ie have to wear a certain color scrubs) what do you wear? All solids, or mix and match, or print tops?

Of all of my worries about starting on Monday I'm actually concerned about what to wear. I know, probably a completely dumb concern. (I guess I just want to fit in) I originally was supposed to work at a different hospital and they required a certain color scrubs for the dept I was working in (solid royal blue) So I purchased them, and this is all I have. Next week I can get some more, but for now thats basically it. Where I'm actually ending up working has no particular requirements for scrubs and I'm somewhat concerned about looking ridiculous in my solid blues if everyone always wears prints.

I know, I know. Insignificant and dumb in the scheme of things, and trust me I'm worried/nervous about everything there is to be worried/nervous about thats important. So help me out here and tell me what you think, please. Will I look ridiculous and should try to buy a printed top or something tomorrow? And what do you wear?

At my local hospital most of the nurses wear a print top, but a lot also wear solid sets. It just depends on the nurse. We only have one dept that has a dress code and that is l&d.

I say wear what YOU feel comfortable in. I always wear solids because even in real life clothes I don't wear many prints. I'm 5'10 and thin, and when I wear prints I am very uncomfortable. I also would never wear cutsie cartoon prints (unless maybe in peds). I don't wear Winnie the Pooh out to dinner, so I wouldn't wear Winnie to work! Some scrub brands are much more comfortable than others. Check out the scrub forum.

Good luck. Let us know about your day!!!

Where I work we are all just happy that staff actually show up for work. We could care less about what they have on, (unless of course they are wearing a black thong with their low rise scrub pants and belly shirt). Then we all act shocked for a minute and then go about our business.:p

You can't go wrong with solids, so wear what you have and when you feel the need to change, you can branch out. I do like the character prints, the kids in the ER like them and it can take their mind off what is happening to them. We automatically have a bond if I am wearing Dora the Explorer, Sponge Bob, or my favorite little dog who is Bad to the Bone.

Wear what suits your personality as long as it is in line with the dress code.

I wear whites.

Everyone wears something different. Lots of Winnie the Pooh on our ward, Shelly, LOL, but I do work in peds. Lots of people wear kid-themed scrubs, but a lot of people just wear plain. So no worries.

But, I do want to tell you that worrying about what to wear is not silly at all. It may be the only thing you can control for a while at your job and it's pretty natural to want to fit in. My sense is that you'll do great :D.

Have fun, don't sweat it and take it as it comes. And if possible, get a good night's sleep Sunday ;).

In school I bought all solid sets in many different colors. But then I started buying tops relevant to the months' holidays.

January I had snowflakes, snowmen etc

February of course I had a ton of tops with hearts

March I had a few with four leaf clovers and leprachans

April was pastel Easter Egg types, bunnies

May was spring themed tops (but did wear patriotic themed ones for Memorial day)

June was flowers

July was the American Flag and fireworks

September I had leaves and autumn type tops

October was pumkins, black cats, etc

November was Thanksgiving themed w/turkeys

December was tops with presents on it, Christmas trees

I just started working as a full fledged nurse and 1 of the 4 days I was there I wore a solid set (a dark pink) and the other 3 I had white pants with different heart tops I have.

I was worried about "sticking out" being the new nurse. But I noticed that all the nurses all wore different things, some wore solid sets, others wore solid bottoms with a print top, some had the "cutsie" tops with Winnie the Pooh and things like that (which I don't think belongs in LTC..but to each his/her own).

Wear what you like and feel comfortable in.

I wear whites.

Don't hid Sue, I love whites. I know that not all do but I wear them because I like it and it doesn't matter if someone else doesn't.

I wore white pants 3 of the 4 days that I started work this week. I wore white tops with hearts on them.

I am wearing full white next week.

I do care if some people like it - my patients. They love it, in fact, and given that most of the hospital census is generally geriatric, they immediately KNOW that I'm the nurse. It comforts them.

I always wear solids, i think it would look awkward when I, a male walk into work wearing a betty boop top.

I'd totally go with whites all the time. I prefer it, and the patients express that they'd prefer it as well.

Our unit is print tops and solid pants, but everyone wears the same thing....RT, OT/PT, HCT's, Housekeeping, etc.
