Nursing Students General Students

hi all,

next semester i am supposed to take microbiology, anatomy and physiology 2, organic chemistry, and one nursing class! in my opinion, this seems ridiculous....is this suicide if i take these 3 sciences together in one semester????? :crying2: :uhoh3:  i really appreciate any opinions~~thank you!

I wouldn't call it suicide, but I wouldn't suggest it, if at all possible. That nursing class is likely to be difficult, too. So it would be like taking 4 big classes at once. Do you have a lot of other responsibilities too? (job, kids, etc.) Are you one of those students that learning stuff comes quick and easy? If so, you might squeak by, but your GPA might suffer too. Is the curriculum set up to where everyone takes those classes in the same sequence?

All three of those classes require a great deal of study time. If you're disciplined, you could probably do it. Would I suggest it? No. Could I survive it with passing grades? Probably not with grades that made me feel good.

That's going to be one tough semester! :uhoh21:

Do you have an academic advisor or registrar to talk to? Maybe they know people that have done it before or they could switch your schedule around a little bit?

Good luck!!! :)

Wow. They have Patho, Nsg fundamentals, and pharm all scheduled the first semester for us, but I think most students try to knock out patho before NS. I did, no way could I handle all that.

That sounds like a really tough semester--any way of reducing that? I swear, the people who map out what classes to take each time never took them all at the same time, LOL.

i don't think so as long as you have enough study time for each class. i have to take chem ii, a&p ii, 2 nursing classes, nutrition and sociology. the last two are online. i have taken chem and a&p but it was a while ago. i really didn't want to take this many classes, but i think i have to complete my prereq's before clinicals start in jan.

All I have to suggest, if this is unchangeble, is to try to get the books, start highlighting, and say good-bye to family and friends. (Unless they'll do laundry for you!) And if you have a job, I hope it's one you can study while there.

See if there's any other options.

it is going to be intense, just be sure are going to be able to handle it. best of luck to you. :)

i know it sounds crazy!!! i am a transfer student-- i was in teaching, then switched over to nursing....those are the only classes i have left to take before i can start taking my nursing classes and do my clinicals, which is why they put them all in one semester so i could start taking my core classes the semester after! my gpa right now is a 4.0-- i know its going to be really tough to keep that, which i have accepted, however, i would hate for it to be dropped on the sciences!! i would be a 4th year student, but since i changed my major i am now a 2nd year student~ and the thing that concerns me is....i haven't had a science or math class since i was a senior in highschool....about 5 years ago!!! :smackingf thankfully, i dont have to work throughout school and i have a really supportive family~ any other advice will be much appreciated~~ so far, the responses have helped settle my stomach a bit! thanks!!! :thankya:

I think it will prepare you for your nursing classes! Maybe it won't be such a shock! :chuckle

I agree, it's a lot of real intense courses. But if you feel you can handle it, then more power to you. I know that I was freaking out with just Anatomy, then again with Physiology...all taken separately, anatomy in freshman year of nursing school and physiology in 2nd semester of freshman year. Whatever you chose, good luck.

You go girl! if you can do it! I took Medical Microbiology, Human Growth and Development and Organic, Inorganic and Biochemistry last semester (attened two seperate college at the same time to do this) I got my 4.0 but boy was I ready for summer. Microbiology was fun, the chemistry stuff was hard and time consuming but the Human Growth and Development was a cinch. Physio was hard. I got an A on all my tests but I studied studied studied. Anatomy is not so hard, but A LOT of memorization. If your still alive and kicking in five months I will pat you on the back and take you out to dinner!
