...when you call a parent about a student.

I hate it when I get a call from a Little Darling's parent wanting to know what is wrong with their LD , because they missed a call from the school. When I tell them I have not seen their LD and it could be a number of people. Then they launch into a rant because I don't know who called them. (I'm sure the receptionist a can say an "Amen" to this also.)

Could it be that they have not set up the voice mail option yet or, even better, the voice mail is full. Voice mail is on your phone for a reason, set it up and clean out your voice mail!

Rant over!!!

I wish there was a clapping smiley face!

I have a similar conversation at least weekly and it always ends with me transferring them back to the receptionist because nothing I am saying is making the parent happy.

YES. YES, YES, YES!

Seriously the office calls me to ask if I called XYZ student because XYZ's parent missed a call from the school and wanted to know if it was me.

It was not me. I will ALWAYS leave a voicemail if your phone is able to receive them. Please check your voicemail. Which is way too much to ask, i guess...

I tell the parents "Any staff member who calls will leave a message. If you received a missed call with no message from the school, it was likely your student."

Then 90% of the time, they say "Oh there's a message, but I didn't listen to it" which makes me want to rip my hair out.

Oh yes! Or when I DO call and leave a message they will call back and say "someone called me but I don't know who" so the secretary will have to ask everyone in the office who called and when they reach me first thing I say is "did you check your messages?" and it's always no. Of course not. Why would you do that?

Had this happen just today. Little Darling was being, oh so, dramatic, so I wanted to talk to someone. Left messages on every number on the list. Walked out of the office and heard this on the Walkie, "Did someone try to call Little Darling's parent?" Well, yes I did. Did you listen to your voice message??????

My biggest pet peeve is when I leave a message for a parent to call me and they call /text their darling instead.

I call all numbers, leave a message and write on my log and on the computer I called them, if they argue, I can point out I called them at this time from this number.

I hate that as well!

Or how about, you call because little darling got a bruise or whatever, you get VM, leave a message, then get a nasty note the next day from parent saying how they didn't know their kid got hurt, or a talk from the principal of how you never called to to the parent! :banghead:
