Salary to expect as a new grad nurse

Published

Hello all. just reading different threads and wondering what does the starting salary look like for a grad nurse? i live the in Atlanta area so any ball park figure will do. thanks!

does anyone know the salary for new grad RNs in sioux falls (south dakota)?

As a new grad in North Central Indiana I was offered $13.74 before the NCLEX and $16.47 after the NCLEX. This was for the ER that I've worked in for 4 years. Needless to say, I shopped around and got something better. I start at a hospital in Indy in a couple of weeks that is $20 before and $20.50 after with a good night/weekend differential. Definitely makes the 1 hr drive worth it.

I should be asleep but I'm here.

Have not been on line for a time and what a thrill was to see this thread grow. Hope you all get to read this.

I work in a small SO. IL hospital, I looking for a new job. Went on line to the states unemployment site to see what was there... there were jobs listed in the town I worked in. At my hospital more like a ECF, there was a job :lol2: statring pay for a RN was 14.77:lol2: This is just what I started at. After a year I'm at 15. 54 this is a joke:o I work a 12 pm shift and get only a dollar more per hr. Now I ask you how long would stay. All night long is the charting and help the 1 CNA to turn Pt q2hrs.

I ask you what did I go to school for. I work 4 days a week when were short which is all the time. With the over time I might just get 30,000 this year or die trying. There are a few realy good nurses there but turn over is so high. The mucky mucks keep tell us their trying to get us a raise:lol2: SHOW ME THE MONEY:angryfire . Back to the ad, in the same town is ECF and their scale is 14-17 an hr:uhoh21: why can they pay more???????? I've put out my resume hope I get a call soon.

I see the same Pt all the time and not to be mean but some don't needed to be there, there are those that realy need TLC but are not there because there is no room.

If the roots weren't so deep I just might move. Not a lot of places unless I go to the next state and I like to sleep in my own bed.

Well got to go back to work in 7 hrs maybe 5 hours of sleep. I was to have 4 days off but I gave up one in order to get the new RN nurses back to nights after the RN classes. ( for a year they have worked as LPN's) They don't need hand holding.

The new Grad starting pay in Chattanooga Tn is $16.75 - $17.34 for ADN/ASN for day shift with $1.00 more per hour for BSN (info from personal experience and word of mouth from peers). Night shift ranges from $2.50 to $3.50 more per hr and weekend shift will add another $2.00 per hr depending on the facility.

I started at one of the higher paying facilities, but learned that my pay would not increase more than $1.00 after my first year in my current position. I have learned from several of my peers that if I choose to change facilities or postions after my first year, the wages usually increase by another $3-5.00 per hr.

Also, at most facilities medical benifits start on the date of hire (no three month waiting period). 401K is offered at most facilities as well as short and long term disability. Also, at my facility new hires earn aprox 140-180 hrs paid time off per year (depending on hours worked)

Here in Morgantown, WV GN's start at 19.62 and then 10% shift differential. So, working night's I'll be making 21.58 The benefits are great and with the 401 k they match up to 6% after two years of employment.

The weekend incentive program pays $4/hr more added on to whatever your base rate is. And raises are .50/6 months.

I just failed the nclex.. so I was demoted to a nurse extern. But, I was surprised to find out that I'll be making 14.30 AND I'll still be able to keep my benefits. They just expect me to test again as soon as I'm able to.. which they just changed to 45 days. (it used to be 90 days inbetween) ;)

Hi. I live in Augusta Ga. I have seen from 3 different hospitals anywhere from $18 to $19.50/hr. I will be working at a hospital with magnate status. It is a night position-starting pay is $19.50/hr. I also get $.25 extra an hour b/c of being ACLS certified. Also got a $5000 sign on. Differentials: $4.00 to $4.25/hr for weekday nights and $8.00 to $8.25/hr for weekend nights. Also, reimbursing for 1st attempt NCLEX fees.

I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The starting wage here for a GN at the hospital I work as an aide at is $19/hr plus $6,000 sign on bonus (no raise after you pass the NCLEX) Cost of living is pretty cheap. I have a 3 bedroom house with 2,000 square feet and my mortgage payment is only $605/month. The rent for apartments ranges from $400 - $1200 depending on what neighborhood you live in.

I live in San Joaquin valley in CA. New grad ip nurses start out at 19.11. When I take boards and hope pass, it will be bumped up to $28. Another hospital nearby pays $31 for new grads....

how much does an RPN in Ontario and Alberta(Canada) get per hour?

Earnings

Median annual earnings of registered nurses were $52,330 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $43,370 and $63,360. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $37,300, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $74,760. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of registered nurses in May 2004 were as follows:

Employment services $63,170

General medical and surgical hospitals 53,450

Home health care services 48,990

Offices of physicians 48,250

Nursing care facilities 48,220

I guess some of us are in the LOW LOW LOW percentile. If you make $16/hr that comes out to less than $30000. Now if you are being paid that then do really think you will ever make it to $50000 at such facility???? I mean, how many raises do you think you would get? You'd have to be there like 40 years! So I don't know where those figures come from. And Dr's offices pay even less usually! $48,000??? I made $14/hr at a Dr's office. Those figures are not "reality" to many many areas of the US.

Here in Tampa it's $21/hr. They just increased it. :)

That's good to hear. Is that just for Tampa or all of the Bay area?
