  1. Here is the situation. Tell me what u think. I had some trouble with nclex. Took a few attempts to pass. Was a PCA 2 for about 10 months after graduation. Worked on a busy med/surg floor (diabetes/gi) on night shift. Now, I have transferred to more of a surgical floor as a nurse. I had 3 weeks orientation on days (to get to know orders/surgeons) and then 3 weeks on nights. I start Monday as my first night on my own. (will be working nights full time). Anyway, here is the situation. My husband (works for EMS) told me about this nursing home that he takes pt's to that has an opening for ADON (asst. director of nursing) for this nursing home. It has about 95-100 residents. I would be in charge of staffing, falls managment, care plans, weekly meetings with different departments, overseeing care by LPN's and CNA's, and risk management.,etc. So it would be a management type job. They have 6 doctors total. I would do alternating weeks of call. My husband has never had issues with anyone at the facility and says everyone is nice. Also, there is a hospital literally within walking distance and is about 1 min. away if anything happened. My question is would u take the ADON position or stay on the floor? *Granted, they know my background (new nurse, PCA experience), they would be more than willing to work with me, and currently an LPN is acting as ADON. I went to the facility and met the DON, workers, and residents. They basically offered me the position. I feel that I am not ready for that and am leaning toward not taking it. I would feel bad for the people at my current job bc they invested so much time to orient me for 6 weeks just to throw it away. Also, I feel as if they are just trying to fill the opening and not nec. thinking of me and my license. Also, I kinda feel like I maybe need to get my skills, confidence, time management/prioritizing down, etc. I am going to think about it a little more ..but I am going to call them on Monday with my decision. SO...what would u do?
  2. I currently have a SC license (for RN ) and am trying to get a GA license (for RN). I have not practiced in SC, and received it about mid -April. I sent my application for GA license and it was received by the Board on April 20. I have 5 "x"'s remaining and am getting anxious and frustrated with how long it is taking. It took about 1 week and 1/2 just to be able to register with the NURSYS people. Has anyone else had an issue? Is there anything I can do? I just want my number asap b/c I have a dream job on another floor waiting on me. I cannot start orientation on that floor until my lisence number posts. Until then, I will continue to be a PCA (nurse assistant) on my current floor. HELP!!
  3. I say do the kaplan course online...100 percent guarenteed...from someone who has taken the test several times ..this is what did it for me, finally!! It is expensive but if you really use it it will be worth it!! I promise!! I even had a question on the test that was an exact question on the test!
  4. I know there is never a "typical" day I am sure in the ER, but I was wondering ..... What is a day usually like in the ER? What all diagnoses's do you see? How many patients do you see? (pt./nurse ratio) How long was your orientation? What qualities/skills do you feel are important? Thanks
  5. what the different levels are/mean? (Level 1 trauma center..etc) Thanks.
  6. Poll to see where new grads are working these days: 1) Med surg 2) Critical Care/ER 3) Other
  7. I guess what I mean is: For those who took the test, looking back, did you feel like if you just knew strategies ..do you think you would have passed or is it more knowing your nursing knowledge (disease processes.patho..meds,etc). Do you think you would have passed if you just knew enough strategies (like Kaplan teaches)?
  8. Isn't there also a movie by the same name?
  9. Do you think that the NCLEX is more of a test to see how well you know how to answer the questions the way they want you to...or is it more a test of your knowledge?
  10. I am possibly thinking of going to the OR. 1) How do the doctors treat newbies, whether new grads or not? 2) How does on call work? How much do you get paid? How often are you on call?
  11. I am about to retake my boards for the 4th time on Dec. 28th. I found myself to be not studying recently (last week to week and 1/2). Shouldn't I be feeling confident by now? I feel so bad ...I honestly feel like if I don't pass this time I wont take it again. Each time you see the words "fail" is very very unbearable and heart crushing. I honestly thought of suicide for a second ..which is very scary to me. I know I wouldn't really do that but I feel that bad. I know every time I have taken it is was due to test anxiety. Even through high school til now I have had test anxiety. I don't know what to do.

What kind of diagnosis's do you see in the MICU as well as SICU? I am more interested in the SICU but still wanted to see what the MICU has to. Thanks ~A~

I am a new grad. Can you work in the PACU as a new graduate if it is a PRN position?
  14. I have the big course book by Kaplan that came with the online package (question trainers, reviews, etc) (Has an EKG diagram on the front) My 3 month access is completed. I was going to give the book to a friend. Do you think she could pass with just this particular Kaplan book? What are your thoughts?
