I think Kaplan is definetly worth the $$$. I see this way: if you take Kaplan which cost around $429 combine that cost with the nclex fee of $200, with Board of nursing fee of $190. Total: $819 You're probably thinking "that's a lot of money!" BUT think about how much more you could spend if you don't take Kaplan the first time, then end up failing nclex... My goal was to take the nclex and pass it the very first time. Kaplan will help you get through that tough test, granted you do your part. Also, Kaplan's course is backed by a money back guarantee. I agree with these, however I would do one thing slighly different which is to give report, then teach. In my opinion, it is more of a priority to give report then to teach. I see it like this: teaching can wait but giving report cannot.

Hello everyone, I am just curious to find out your state of practice and your starting rate as well as patient ratio. I am in O-Town (Orlando, Florida ) and the starting rate here for GN's is $19.69. How pathetic!

Relax...you'll be just fine. Easy for me to say now because I was in your shoes a few months ago. that is exactly why I say to RELAX because the stress simply was not worth it! Be on your toes but don't let your anxiety get the best of you. I took kaplan (classroom/online) soon after graduation and it trully helped me get through this test. I passed with 75 questions, I took my sweet time so 2 1/2 hours later, it was over. All I can say it that Kaplan was worth it, plus they are backed by a 100% money back garantee (should someone fail). You bet you'll get meds that you have never heard of. That's just Nclex for ya'. My advice is to know you meds by classification, focusing on majors safety issues when it comes to side effects. Know pertinent info that any safe nurse would or should know about these class of meds. Go in there and give it your very best shot. What got me through the meds was to read the question carefully, then attempt to break down the medication, if no luck with that, read your answer choices carefully ask yourself " what is the safest" or "what is the most unsafe" option. Nclex is testing your basic ability to be a safe nurse. Good luck.

I think passing this test is a combination of knowledge and knowing how to answer the questions. You can have all the content knowledge but if you cannot id what is being asked and how to answer, you knowledge serves no purpose.

Just bear in mind that Nclex is unlike any test that you've taken in nursing school. That being said, know all that you need and should know about it because it will help you. I know of some people who had the same mentality and did not prepare before taking the nclex, and they failed while others who did the opposite passed on the first try. Think carefully about it but don't discourage others. I myself was a B student in nursing school, however I benefited greatly from a review course. My motto is: Do it once, do it right. Good luck!

Hang in there. One advise: Make sure you are ready before retaking. Explore other avenues (prep course, study books, hours spent studying/day) that you did not use the previous 2 times. No need to pressure yourself with a deadline. Make plan to start studying and you will know when you are ready to retake. Only then schedule a date and go for it. I took Kaplan prep course (their approach is to show you strategies on how to break the questions and figure out what is being asked so that you can select the right answer). I reviewed contents with Saunders 3rd edition (great book! Colorful and tons of info you'll need to know!!!). I passed on the first try with 75 q but realize that success on passing nclex is a combination of good preparation and confidence. I studied monday through friday 9am - 5pm, worked on fridays 11p-7a and took saturdays and sundays off. Then 2 months later, when I had no more energy to study, I knew I was ready and I took the test. Be confident in yourself that you can and will pass this exam. Don't attract negative energy to you. Be positive. Your last thought before falling asleep at night should be "I have what it takes and I will pass the nclex exam. Trust me, it works. Good luck!

The nclex exam is an national exam. Same standard apply no matter what State you take it in. It's the same everywhere.

Go in there and do the best that you can. You know the information, take your time and think through each question. Good luck!
