Got a cup and a $10.00 gift certificate at walmart. This was the first year we didn't get scissors missed them. keep miss placing them in other peoples pockets.

My dad had been in the ICU on the vent. When they took him off one the first question was if his brother was dead I told him no. They seen each other about a month before dad went into the hospital. Dad was taken up to long term care for rehab. He was put into a room with a Pt who was dying. They move my dad to the next room because of my mother's Alzhimers. The day they move him we went to see him. Mom and I went to get something to eat and dad a shake he love them. We got back and found he had pass on. That was the Friday before fathers day. Dads brother Ross was to sick to come and pay his respects, he had been put in a nursing home. Mom and I went to see him late in Sept. We talk about my dad and other stuff that day. 2 days latter he died. I offten wonder if dad saw what was to come. My dad was as sharp as a tack and I thought is was the drugs talking but now I still wonder.

Where is the DR'S office? I could use the exta cash. Where is the hospital I could use a lot more cash? The good Samaritan act might save her out in the commuinty but not in the office. It's state law here in IL if you say your a nurse you better be one and have the paper work to back it up or you go to jail for a long time.

I have about 25 mix and match top and bottoms and a few Christmas tops have about 6 jackets a few that match the pants. Line the pu and never were the same outfit more then 1 a month. When I do the laundry I put them to the right. Work from LT to RT. Never wear the same outfit that month. Do have abour 5 fav's would wear all month but thats redundent.

We also have bed alarms but we assessment tool are they a fall risk. Any falls in the last 6 months? If yes the we have a fall sheet and we chack on them every 15 mins. Not the best ideal. We have identified a possable problem Pt.

I should be asleep but I'm here. Have not been on line for a time and what a thrill was to see this thread grow. Hope you all get to read this. I work in a small SO. IL hospital, I looking for a new job. Went on line to the states unemployment site to see what was there... there were jobs listed in the town I worked in. At my hospital more like a ECF, there was a job statring pay for a RN was 14.77:lol2: This is just what I started at. After a year I'm at 15. 54 this is a joke:o I work a 12 pm shift and get only a dollar more per hr. Now I ask you how long would stay. All night long is the charting and help the 1 CNA to turn Pt q2hrs. I ask you what did I go to school for. I work 4 days a week when were short which is all the time. With the over time I might just get 30,000 this year or die trying. There are a few realy good nurses there but turn over is so high. The mucky mucks keep tell us their trying to get us a raise:lol2: SHOW ME THE MONEY:angryfire . Back to the ad, in the same town is ECF and their scale is 14-17 an hr:uhoh21: why can they pay more???????? I've put out my resume hope I get a call soon. I see the same Pt all the time and not to be mean but some don't needed to be there, there are those that realy need TLC but are not there because there is no room. If the roots weren't so deep I just might move. Not a lot of places unless I go to the next state and I like to sleep in my own bed. Well got to go back to work in 7 hrs maybe 5 hours of sleep. I was to have 4 days off but I gave up one in order to get the new RN nurses back to nights after the RN classes. ( for a year they have worked as LPN's) They don't need hand holding. As I say LIFE IS A LEARNING CURVE AND KEEP THE FEET DRY.

Agreee with everything said. But some places pay better diff on nights then others. The skill is to find them. at 16.54 with shift diff it's not much for a med/sug RN. what did I got to SCHOOL for. The loans that have to be paid back???? High gas Prices.

Never use the Q word (uite) say "it's controlled night or peaceful) never, never say QUITE.

I want to thank all of you that responed. Just worked 4 -12 hr nights this week and have maybe 3 or 7 more weeks of this. They keep telling us that they have hired 2 more nurses but it will be at least 8 or more weeks before thay come to the night shift. SO the question is how long do I stay????? And if I go where do I go???? Not to many choices around here. Of course managment did say they are trying the get a bigger shift diff but we have heard this for a few years. Med/surg makes young nurses old and old nurses decrepit.

Did the pill pass 1 before the food 1 after and 1 at hs. ON THE GOOD NIGHTS with in the 2hr time frame. When the CNA's left the Pt in the day room so I could find them. My night was get report, start the 1st pass, while they were eating check lungs sounds (surveynurse close your ears) help feed the res, get a jump start on the next pass by crushing the 15 meds of 1 Pt, then get ready for the next one. Do that pass and if their was time and I did'nt get 10 MD call backs with new orders. I might get dinner if there was anything good to eat, PBJ's most nights. Then I would do the HS pass not as many but had to find the res first. Alzhimer's unit 28 res. Then that took me to about 10:00pm. Had one hour to chart. All of that would not of been so bad if it were not for the fact that it was my first nursing job. Take heart you can only do what you can. Until there is the staff to make it a :rotfl: world. We do what we can. I think that touching the lives of those we are intrusted to care for, is what we do best. They were my extend family. And I loved them all.

It's a two year program.

surveynurse: your right about the acuity, our problem is we split rooms. So we might just get the 6-8 high acuity or the 6-8 less sick but still need the 1 to 1 more then the others. Like the confused eldery. I do less pT care as the numbers go up. One night I had to give 3 units of blood and still take 4 other high acuity Pt's. I'm worried one day I will miss something.

surveynurse, thats a lot of patients to take care of. but if you were back on the foor med /surg how many patients could you take care of and be safe. thats the real question. what is a safe number, icu 2, med /surg 5, 6, 7, 8?? what is the number. you see the problems and the solutions. last week i worked an extra 12 day we're short nurses, 3 days in a row 1st day 6, 2nd day 7, by the 3rd day 8. the patients were not hard but the other nurses had admit's so they were doing more paper work then me. maybe i question so much becuse i'm new but is there a safe number???????

Your lucky... our census is up to 21 and were lucky if we have 3 nurses and 1 CNA and managment still :Melody: can't say in polite company. We have a lot of turn q2hrs, feeding tubes, hip replacements, pneumonia cases, and doctors that won't send them home. ICU is packed 13 Pt, and we will get them on med/surg soon. ICU sends them out to the floor and we have no beds, we have a ECF here too and there full. Then we have a thing called SWING BED thats when we transfer them in the computer like a medicare bed, but we still have to do all the paper work like a new admit. That takes about an hour for the paper work. now on days there are 4 nurses, 3 CNA's, unit clerk just to put orders in the computer, this they can justify. I guess they think all we do on nights is sleep we don't have the time. Getting the call lights, turns q2 that takes and hour, pass meds, charting , and anything the doctor might want you to do :chuckle no dinner break, on top of it. For a whopping 15.77 and wonder why there is a shortage :stone . Now for the best part I was asked if I could come in on my day off and work, ya I said yes, what was I going to say. 12 hrs 3 x a week takes a lot out of you. and of course when you get off it's your day off and all you do is sleep, or stay up and then your on a day schedule, but you might be called in. What do you do.

I think they all should be working durring the breaks. Some the MSN at school need some hands on. To long in the class room old ideals that have not been used in 30 years.
