Hello all. just reading different threads and wondering what does the starting salary look like for a grad nurse? i live the in Atlanta area so any ball park figure will do. thanks!
The hospital I'm externing at has their new grads hire in at $23.75/hr with shift/weekend/holiday differential. They said in the two years it will take till I graduate it will probably go up. Not bad for Indiana!
hi allie
i'm also in indiana
just curious about where you are working at?
i started at 19/hr
In australia for a new graduate nurse it starts at A$20. how much is that in US$$ i am not sure but perhaps somewhere around 16-17 US dollars? you are lucky to get 23-30 in the USA that is not bad at all for a starting RN.
you can check exchange rates at

as of today; 20 australian dollars equals about 15.34 USD
Here in Chicago at my hospital the starting RN pay is ~$23.00 as a base.
PM shift pays +$2.00 and nocs pays +$3.25, weekend differential is an added $2.00.
I did precept a nursing student who was returning to Minnesota and had accepted a job at Univ of MN starting at $26.50 for days.
Guess it is all dependent on where you are.
This thread is depressing. RNs in the Southeast earn the lowest salaries out of the entire country and my husband has no desire to move. As a new nurse the salaries start around $20 plus (if you choose) shift diffs anywhere from $4-5 and weekend option between $6-9. Even though we're paid less, you can work Fri-Sun nights and earn $100K. Not a bad deal.
I live in Ohio, but just got hired in Kentucky as a new grad. I'll be starting off with day shift pay of $21.39 an hour, then it goes up .60 cents after 3pm and then up another dollar if you work the 7p-7a shift. Also when you work the weekends they pay you an extra dollar. So, let's say, if I work 7p-7a shift and it's a weekend (which we're required to do every other month), I'll be making $24.24 per hour as a new graduate!. :nuke:
In Central NJ - I'm starting my internship at $25 an hour and at the end of our 18 weeks, we're bumped up to $29 an hour plus a 10% shift/weekend differential. Benefits the first month after we start (which is Aug. 7th) so we'll have insurance Sept. 1st which for us comes at no cost and is very inexpensive to add family members. 4 weeks vacation after our internship is over, flex spending, 401K, 529, etc....
