  1. Congratulations!!!!!! So excited for you!!!
  2. Indiana also has one, the largest in the country!! Their website is http://www.ihie.org.
  3. i would say it would depend on what it is you want to do. there are also other programs besides nursing and RT if you would want to look into those. respiratory therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietician, and assistants to these people. With nursing, you can do all sorts of things - hospital, nursing home, even work in a jail system. once you get the basics from schools, you will build on those skills. Don't worry about limited knowledge now. It will come!!! respiratory therapy vs. nursing - RT - become expert on one system vs broad spectrum of nursing when first starting out. as you become more knowledgeable, you can always go back to the accelerated BSN. lots of different perks for both. do you have any particular questions?
  4. I would try to find a company that does computer charting. I know Nightingale Home Care is computerized. Their website is http://www.homecareforyou.com. Hope that helps!

Hey all, Just out of curiosity, if you are a HH nurse and use your own car, what kinda car do you use? What part of the country are you in to use this car, meaning - do you use an SUV in the more rugged areas of the US and more gas efficient vehicle in other areas. I drive chevy SUV - get about 26 miles on the highway, drive an average of 150 - 200 miles a day. I have had it about a year and have about 30,000 miles on it. Don't want to wear it out and thinking maybe a more efficient vehicle but love the extras I have on my vehicle for the amount of driving I do. Thanks for replies!!
  6. Hey, As an RT, what sort of avenue are you looking for to high step it to RN??? I guess I haven't seen much on RT's jumping to the field. Just curious as to what research, direction, or schooling you are looking into to get into the nursing field???
  7. I never experienced that at all. When you sign the contract and start working at the hospital, or where ever it is, I started at the same scale as all the other student nurses. The benefit of working for the hospital as a student nurse with the experience will also look good to the manager showing commitment to the field. As the other posts stated, gaining confidence and learning from other nurses in the field will be an invaluable experience during clinicals and helping other nursing students. I think it would be very helpful to you. I would go for it!!!!!!! Good luck!!!! EMMY
  8. At our hospital, we do hourly rounding during the day and 2 hour rounding at night. This has increased our pt. satisfaction considerably. We have a set scripting that we try to follow. It introduces ourselves to the pt. and their family, what our title is and what our duties will be. We are also supposed to introduce our support staff and anyone else. On our hourly rounding, we ask them the three P's - pain, potty, and position. This decreases falls, call light usage, and increased pt. satisfaction. This was done hospital wide and our numbers have increased from the 70's to the 90's within our national size hospital group. Hope this helps a little. Good luck with pt. satisfaction!!
  9. Confidence for me slowly has come with repetition and just taking it day by day. Some days I will still digress in my decision making but I know that I am feeling better about coming to work and feeling more confident about taking care of my patients and knowing that I am giving them the best care that I can. (sorry, bad run on sentence. Night shift nurse here.) When I feel like I am having a bad day, I will rely on my coworkers to help get me through it and then be able to call on my friends outside of work to help get me through it. You can also start to write a journal so that you learn past mistakes and see how you have grown from the beginning. Hope that helps. Good luck!!!!
  10. hi allie i'm also in indiana just curious about where you are working at? i started at 19/hr
  11. also take into consideration that you have posted this question on a nursing board and not a DH board like the previous posts, i see more flexibility with nursing if you get bored in one area, you can always do something else

  14. Hello, I am currently attending BSU for their accelerated program. I had also applied to the accelerated program at IUPUI but I didn't have the GPA they were looking for. I had graduated from BSU with my first degree and they were happy to take me. :) Marian College also has an accelerated program but they are a private school. For a quick review of the programs, they are both 18 months long. You will be going to school during the summer months and taking clinicals at the nearby hospitals. At BSU, the lecture classes are in a lecture hall but the clinical class has a maximum of 8 people so you will get individual attention from your clinical instructor. I hope that helps a little bit to get you started. You can also go to their websites and garner a little more information from there. If I can answer any of your questions, just PM me. Good Luck!!!
  15. Hello, I went to the resource room at our university. It has the nursing spectrum magazine, pamphlets for jobs, and other things pertaining to nursing. I happened to pick up a pamphlet for the military nursing career and read over it. It sounds rewarding. You would get to travel if you were on active duty, or just stay at home with the same benefits of the military if you are on reserve duty. They would also help you with getting a Masters. It sounds like a really great opportunity, although I do realize it is still a military job with the same rewards and limitations noted with other military positions. Is anyone on this board associated with any of the military branches in nursing? I would like to hear about any good or bad stories that you would happen to have. Thanks!!! EMMY Will graduate with RN in spring 2005
