Did I make a mistake?
I wouldn't worry about leaving the facility. It is about your happiness and not up to them. saying you were a waste of time and money is harsh and unprofessional. like my mom always tells me..."be nice to everyone; they could be your boss someday." nursing is nice in that you have hundreds of options. you can go anywhere and have a job in an instant.

ER Waiting Times
Like every other hospital in the world..it varies. our average (from triage to discharge) is like 4.5 hours. our hospital is smaller and our er has 23 beds right now. we are getting ready to double that number, too. I would say the average wait time from triage to bed placement in ed is maybe 45 minutes?? that is totally a guess.

topics for argumenative paper
Im seeking some ideas for argumentative topics (hopefully in healthcare). The topic must be controversial and 20 pages long..any suggestions? This is for a non-nursing class so it has to be on a normal college level. I was thinking of socialized medicine?? give me some thoughts and Id appreciate it.

Provigil for shift workers
Has anyone ever tried this product Provigil for excessive sleepiness? Like some, I work the night shift (12 hrs) and feel like I sleep excessively and have problems staying awake. Is this product FDA approved?

Most interesting Micro-organism!!
I like the idea of botulism..that is so interesting. Have you considered Invasive group A streptococcus (IGAS)? this is a bacterium known to be the culprit of the dreaded flesh-eating disease. Proteus is another good one as is aspergillus. too many to choose from!

Is it a good move to straight for RN?
I agree...ADN first...that is another year or so of additional RN PAY that you may be missing out on if you went right into the BSN option. RN ALL THE WAY. I grad with mine last year and, like you, am in pursuit of the BSN currently. I woul not do it any other way. good luck

seeking input from critical care nurses
I have this dilemma...I cannot decide whether to apply for a position in a med-surg ICU or the Emergency department. I am currently and RN working on a (mundane) Med surg unit at a smaller hospital. it is the same things over and over..and not learning anything! I want to go somewhere that I will learn and develop my skills. I have only been an RN for one year. I intend to go on for MSN but I am not sure which specialty. I just want to be somewhere that I will learn a lot of things. We don't even have telemetry on my unit..so clearly there is room for much improvement with my education. what are your thoughts nurses?

help with a research proposal for BSN assignment...
Hey fellow nurses. I am taking a BSN research course and I am trying to find some good info. on alcohol-based hand sanitizers that we use in the health care setting. I remember I had heard once before that waterless hand hygiene products are only effective for use for approximately 5-7 times...after this it builds a film on the hand making the product ineffective without proper hand washing with soap and water. Maybe I am crazy and thought I heard it. Does anyone think this would be a good idea for a research proposal topic? I am open to any suggestions and appreciate it greatly! caleb

Is it professional??????????
I think that it is sort of unprofessional..but this is their culture (no matter how much we want them to become more cultivated to our own). It is probably a struggle for them..but yea i agree that I would not like it! haha understand your dilema

avioding criticism in documentation
Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if a nurse had a hostile or combative patient, is it OK to chart the term "belligerent" in reference to their behavoir? I am a new nurse so I am trying to avoid criticism when documenting.

post-heart cath pain
very informative..however, note that I said extremities..not just one leg. he c/o pain in legs, arms, elbows. I think the replies are interesting tho. never heard of that before. I am just perplexed by his extreme pain...possibly a dependency issue? I'm not one to judge..hedid report a lot of relief after the toradol injection tho.
