My friend who's a fellow RN told me about open nursing positions in Iraq. Apparently they are so desperate for nurses there they are offering $200K for just 6 months.
Any info on this? I tried googling it but with no luck
Whether you believe it or not it isn't just "his" war. And its not just supporting him- it would be supporting our troops- who NEED our support. They are just doing their job- and keeping us free. I have family over there- and am very proud of what they do, and they make me proud to live in America. At least we aren't under the power of Sudam Hussain- you may want to think about that before you go bashing the president. I would be a Nurse to ANYONE who needed it. Wether it is a child in Iraq [even though its hard to tell who you can trust- most the kids are just victims], a soldier in Iraq- or anyone for that matter- here or there.
Honestly I think I would do it. It is not georges war. It is a war where every one that believes in our freedom over here and desires to keep it. How soon we forget what happened on sept 11. I was a former marine before I went to nursing school and though I don't believe in the fighting and letting our young men and woman suffer, I'm all for supporting them. If that would include me doing a 6 month duty to tending to their care I would. My dh and grownup kids would think I was nuts but I will continue to believe in freedom for every human being that desires to have it.
Ok so i normally wouldnt respond to a thread like this because my husband, little brother, and MIL have gone over there, and my husband is now BACK over there for the second time! My MIL is an RN for the reserves, she worked in one of the hospitals tending to not only OUR soldiers, but also the INNOCCENT Iraqi's as well as insurgents who were hurt and brought to her for medical treatment. Hence the reason that this quote irks me below
Well no matter if its true or not, I don't think it is worth it. [Maybe if I didn't have a daughter and only had to take care of me- I might consider it]- Is it nurses for the Iraquis? Or Nurses for our soldiers? B/c I would think the Military would already have Nurses deployed over there... And I wouldn't want to be a Nurse for the Iraquis- you wouldn't know who to trust....
WHAT DOES IT MATTER WHO OR WHAT YOUR PATIENT IS IF THEY ARE HURT AND NEED YOUR HELP??? Do you choose to take care of one color over another? one religion over another? Would you walk away from some one that needed medical attention, attention that you are capable of giving if they had a different sexula orientation from you???? What would be the difference of working here, and a family of gunshot victims came in? Perhaps one of the parents shot their kids, thier spose and then shot themselves, do they not deserve the same medical attention and would you not try to save their lives??? And of those "Iraqi's" guess what?? most of the pts my MIL took care of were CHILDREN, innocent children who were shot, in the wrong place at the wrong time that a bomber set off one!!!
Yes she had to care for a small amount of insurgents, but for the most part she had to deal with the soldiers on BOTH sides, as well as forgien soldiers, and civillians. And the base she was at DID have civillian nurses, but only a few.
My MIL said that YES it was hard sometimes to know she was caring for an individul who just got shot, but the reason he got shot was because he was the "bomber" or whatever. but she did it because she is a nurse and although she doesnt agree with what they did, she had a responsibility as a nurse to take care of someone who was hurt/sick ect.
My husband was injured by an IED during his last deployment, he was with a small group of his soldiers and out of 7 of them 4 were injured, and guess what? there were iraqi's there that saw they needed help and helped my husband and the others get back to their base camp. without their help i may have lost him!!! for that reason alone, there are GOOD people there, who have just lived and learned things differently than us, but they all deserve a chance and good medical attention.
i however, WOULD, work there, and it doesnt matter if it was 200K or less or more!
I'l step off my soapbox now! :) It's just my :twocents: anyway!

How soon we forget Iraq had NOTHING to do with September 11. The majority of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. But of course we can't attack them, we get our oil from them. Sigh...how quickly the sheep fall into place.

Please don't bring september 11 into this. I was one of those lucky folks RUNNING FOR MY LIFE ACROSS THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE as my entire world went up in flames over my shoulder - and EVEN I still can't support this war. This thread isn't ABOUT the politics, so I won't go into a further digression of why. But please, think before you spout the tired, old, and largely disproven and discredited theory that 9/11 had ANYTHING to do with this war, other than excusing it and rallying the angry masses of Americans into an innappropriate expression of their much justified outrage. Tying that tragedy into the tragedy of this senseless war discredits the memory of those lost in both tragedies.
An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, right? ... and then the whole world goes around blind and toothless.

Sheep indeed...
So you're insinuating that Iraq DID have something to do with 9/11? Or that oil has NOTHING to do with the war with your little eyeroll? Please, please get informed and think for yourself instead of waiting to hear what Rush says before deciding which stance you'll take on the issues.

Please forgive my accidental thank you, I meant to click the quote button. I wish there was a way to take our accidental thank you's back. I hate to see my name there...
I don't listen to Rush, I don't need to, nor do I want to. Why do people always assume?
Sorry, but your blanket anger and inability to see any other viewpoint but your own makes you far from credible. I have no need to get involved into an argument with someone who will just spew anger-and be wrong to boot.
Sheep, indeed.
I'm the very first to offer full support to our troops and pray for them every day but we have lost over 4,000 of our kids in this war not to mention how many innocent Iraqis have died in GEORGE W's WAR. I'm so sick and tired of hearing how our kids have been put into harms way to keep us free in this war. This war was never about protecting the freedoms we enjoy because Saddam Hussein, butcher that he was, was never a threat to us in the beginning and was not responsible for 9/11. This war is all about OIL and our kids and millions of Iraqis are dying needlessly just so Bush, Cheney and their oil baron cohorts can make millions!!! Give me a break, already!!!
the op was asking amount how much money could be made, instead it has erupted into the a war debate..no one can be able to tell what any other president would have done if they had been given the same information that was available at that time
if they are paying high wages it is because it is dangerous...if you feel that you can do good and make money at the same time then you decide what is best for you

Seriously. It never ceases to surprise me how people still link 9/11 with Iraq while we still have yet to find the real perpetrator - Osama Bin Laden. Meanwhile the Taliban is reestablishing themselves in Afghanistan.
On another note - I fully support our troops. They are only doing their jobs and following orders. I can criticize the person giving out those orders, as is my right and responsibility to do as a US citizen. But one thing I can't support whatsoever are these military "contractors" ei, KBR, Haliburton, Blackwater and the like. Especially these groups that hire these ex-military/special ops soldiers and pay them 300K+ to basically be mercenaries when it comes down to it. They are being paid to willfully go into a warzone and protect their employers while being paid vast sums of money. No one is keeping track of whether they adhere to any sort of rules of war, geneva convention, civilian casualties.
I had the occasion to meet one of these mercenaries at a bbq my friend who is in the military had. This guy was an ex-ranger and was recruited by one of these firms to provide protection. He told me that he was glad he could get out of the military so he could "take his gloves off and kill some hajis" while making some money. As he talked of killing people he said it with a sort of glee and a twinkle in his eyes that sent chills up my spine. I believe this guy is a genuine psychopath and I really have little remorse for him or any other war profiteers if they get hurt while trying to get rich.
