My friend who's a fellow RN told me about open nursing positions in Iraq. Apparently they are so desperate for nurses there they are offering $200K for just 6 months.
Any info on this? I tried googling it but with no luck
Ok so i normally wouldnt respond to a thread like this because my husband, little brother, and MIL have gone over there, and my husband is now BACK over there for the second time! My MIL is an RN for the reserves, she worked in one of the hospitals tending to not only OUR soldiers, but also the INNOCCENT Iraqi's as well as insurgents who were hurt and brought to her for medical treatment. Hence the reason that this quote irks me ..."I admire your attitude towards rendering care to the sick and injured. You are very right. As a nurse, one should care for the patient irregardless of color, creed or religion. Even if the pt is our enemy, we still need to give him the care that is appropriate without any discrimination. That is truly a professional nurse.
I totally agree with you 100% with regards to the responsibility and duty of a nurse. Thank you for taking the time to write your mind.
Unfortunately, not all nurses think the same way.
thanks salsps! and the thing is i LOVE being a nurse whether here or overseas i would work and yes the money is a bonus, i wish i knew how much civillian nurses are getting over there to work. but even if it was less than 200K, if i didnt have my kids to worry about, and my husband was here safe and sound i'd do it!
FIRST OF ALL GO BACK AND READ WHAT I WROTE.
2ndly- my bf was over there too- twice and Afghanistan as well. And I do have family members that are over there [in the Marines]/ I have Friends in the Marines -one of which just got hit by an IED roadside bomb.
3rd- while my bf was there he said he did not know who to trust. Even kids would come up to the humvees with bombs and blow our troops up. Whats to stop them from going to the hosptials where we are giving care and doing the same thing?
I NEVER said I would not help someone in need- I said I would have a hard time knowing who to trust- and you are deluding yourself if you think it would be peaceful and you could just trust whomever.
I am thankful we do have Nurses over there- ones that can help and are willing to risk their lives. There is a Nursing program in the ARMY- i am sure there are plenty deployed for that purpose. But that doesn't make me a bad person for choosing to stay here and be a Nurse here- I'm just saying that is not for me. I continue to pray for innocent lives lost over there -not matter there race, age, religion, sexual orientation- so yea- take a step down off that soap box- and see where another person stands.
I am a Christian and would NEVER consider not helping someone b/c of race or anything else. IT IS A WAR ZONE over there. So hunny maybe you need to wake up and realize that. PEOPLE -AMERICANS as well as IRAQUIS are dying over there- and excuse me for not wanting to put my life on the line for people who do not give a crap about us. There are some that do- but I'm not about to go accross the world to find out- and leave my daughter mother less. I still have to take care of her- and what good am I to her if I am dead? If I wanted to go to Iraq I would join the Army myself.

My MIL is an RN for the reserves, she worked in one of the hospitals tending to not only OUR soldiers, but also the INNOCCENT Iraqi's as well as insurgents who were hurt and brought to her for medical treatment. Hence the reason that this quote irks me belowWHAT DOES IT MATTER WHO OR WHAT YOUR PATIENT IS IF THEY ARE HURT AND NEED YOUR HELP??? Do you choose to take care of one color over another? one religion over another? Would you walk away from some one that needed medical attention, attention that you are capable of giving if they had a different sexula orientation from you???? What would be the difference of working here, and a family of gunshot victims came in? Perhaps one of the parents shot their kids, thier spose and then shot themselves, do they not deserve the same medical attention and would you not try to save their lives??? And of those "Iraqi's" guess what?? most of the pts my MIL took care of were CHILDREN, innocent children who were shot, in the wrong place at the wrong time that a bomber set off one!!!
Yes she had to care for a small amount of insurgents, but for the most part she had to deal with the soldiers on BOTH sides, as well as forgien soldiers, and civillians. And the base she was at DID have civillian nurses, but only a few.
My MIL said that YES it was hard sometimes to know she was caring for an individul who just got shot, but the reason he got shot was because he was the "bomber" or whatever. but she did it because she is a nurse and although she doesnt agree with what they did, she had a responsibility as a nurse to take care of someone who was hurt/sick ect.
My husband was injured by an IED during his last deployment, he was with a small group of his soldiers and out of 7 of them 4 were injured, and guess what? there were iraqi's there that saw they needed help and helped my husband and the others get back to their base camp. without their help i may have lost him!!! for that reason alone, there are GOOD people there, who have just lived and learned things differently than us, but they all deserve a chance and good medical attention.
i however, WOULD, work there, and it doesnt matter if it was 200K or less or more!
I'l step off my soapbox now! :) It's just my
:twocents: anyway!
Ladies and gentlemen,
The war is a sensitive topic for many of us.
But that's not what this thread is about.
This thread is NOT about "right" vs "wrong". This thread is not about the politics behind the war. This thread is not about 9/11 and terror.
The OP was asking about nursing jobs in Iraq.
Can we please focus our collective attentions and efforts on that?
Thanking you. :)

I think it would be easier to spend or invest the money if you were still alive when you left Iraq.
I'll stay here!
This war is all about OIL and our kids and millions of Iraqis are dying needlessly just so Bush, Cheney and their oil baron cohorts can make millions!!! Give me a break, already!!!
So it's about oil. Whatever. You like driving vs. riding a horse to work, don't you? You like the lights on, don't you? Do you like plastic? Do you like riding in an airplane vs. taking a covered wagon across country, or a steam engine train that goes 35 miles per hour?
If our soldiers (my deployed husband included) went over to fight for oil, then so be it. We need oil to maintain our standard of living. I know for some, this seems, crass, but it's reality. Democrats/liberals won't let us drill for domestic oil, so what are we supposed to do? Does anyone EVER think of what would happen if oil from the middle east were to stop flowing? Does ANYONE remember that it was Sadaam Hussein who FIRST invaded Kuwait in the early 1990's?
Radical Islam is also something I'd rather not experience the effects of in my own country, as well. If stabilizing the Middle East is what it takes to keep it out of American cities where it would unleash unimaginable destruction, then so be it.
I think in 50 years, many will be thanking George Bush for having the courage and fortitude to go into the Middle East and get control of a situation that could have destablized the world. At least he's buying us time to find better solutions to dependence on foreign oil. Many friends are being made in Iraq as well -- but you NEVER will hear that story in the mainstream media.
BTW, Iraq is now opening up its oil fields to worldwide bidding. Seems perhaps its a country that could turn around and fashion itslef more in the image of Kuwait or any of the other peaceful middle eastern countries. Perhaps its a country that will experience peace and prosperity as a result of our occupation and will serve as a model for the rest of the middle east. Can you imagine a STABLE and peaceful middle east?
All of that said, don't paint me as a Bushbot, because I'm not. I don't feel entirely positive about this president for many reasons. My husband has been deployed TWICE in the last 5 years - and I've asked myself many times over if it's worth it. The cost has been high, but the cost of doing nothing could have been much higher.
If I could go there as a nurse, I would, in a heartbeat. My husband sacrificed his life now twice to do it, no questions asked, and earns way less than $200K per year. I realize he volunteers to do this, but honestly, why is it so many Americans would not set foot there and are so happy to let others do the dirty work while they enjoy the freedoms America has to offer?
:getting off soapbox now, thanks:

The recently released Senate Intelligence Report does in fact prove that the Bush administration exaggerated the facts and flat out lied to to garner our support for this war. There are news articles all over the internet regarding this.
