Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!

My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"

This makes me CRAZY! Or when a parent posts of FB that their darling is home sick and another parent comments with "Oh that's going all around school" REALLY? We have had 2 cases, let's not alert the authorities just yet! But you know once it's on Facebook it's true! :sarcastic:

I just shrug and say "Puke happens. All year."

Today's thought: PARENTS make this job so tough. I do not enjoy being screamed at for showing concern for your child.

Had an oops today. Kid came in after lunch complaining of not feeling good. I asked where his pass was(every student has to have a pass to see me or be walked down by a teacher, can't just tell them to come see me) and then I asked if his teacher sent him down he said no someone else did in the cafeteria. I told him to go back to lunch to grab the aid in order to see me. I get a call from teacher 10 minutes later asking if he came to see me. I explained the situation to her and then she informed me he had vomit all over him. I honestly did not notice anything on him! He had a coat on him so I don't know if he didn't throw up just yet or covered himself up.

What else irks me... coming in with let's count them.. my laptop bag... my "nurse" bag... my lunch bag.. my purse.. a bag from the store of stuff I bought for the clinic with my own money.. and being greeted at the door being told that I'm needed in a case conference. You know well in advance of these conferences, please extend me the same courtesy. 7 more days until break...

I am SO using this next time my ANNOYING NOT GETTING A CHRISTMAS CARD THIS YEAR HALL MONITOR tells me this! :)

I was told today by a parent that i am "denying an education" to a K student whose parents refuse to immunize her properly. She is currently excluded for school. All the parents have to do is make appropriate appts!

I have been trying since LAST JUNE to get this child in process and therefore compliant with State law. They make appts, then no show. GAME OVER.

My head is about to pop off.

You're so mean...

Does New York have the "exclusion from immunization affidavit" for reasons of conscious? Texas does and the affidavits are rolling in more and more year after year. It won't be long until we won't be able to maintain herd immunity.

Nope.

Today I've realized all I want for Christmas are little glass jars to showcase all the foreign objects I remove from my students. Would that be a HIPAA violation? (Yes I'm HIPAA not FERPA because school-based health center owned by Public Health).
