Random Thoughts: School Nurses

Published

Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!

My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"

Ugh! Monday mornings kill me. Had a 1st grader throw up on the bus, the bus driver calling school frantic so I could meet the child at the bus, other kids throwing up from the smell or threatening to, Calgon take me away!

8th grade boys did the Jalepeno Cahllenge yesterday and puked green peppers in my office.

Same group that did the Hot Sauce Challenge last year with the diarrhea.

Mhm.

I've got the "Salt and Ice" challenge among my 7th and 8th grade boys this year. :banghead:

I survived the Milk Challenge of 2013!!!

And I had ZERO sympathy for the resultant self induced barfing.

When I was in high school (I graduated in 1998) during a lesson, a science teacher mentioned that a person can't drink too much milk in a short period of time and a student said something like "I love milk, I could drink a whole gallon without feeling sick" so the teacher told the kid that he could bring in a gallon of milk and give it a shot. Challenged him to drink the whole gallon during the class period. The student was proven quite wrong the next day when all the milk came back up.

Try to imagine that happening today!

Oh, the backlash on that would be ridiculous these days!

Well, I'd tell him he would be the one cleaning up that puke ;o).

I love getting the "is there anything going around' phone call from parents. Ummm....there are 500 kids in this school, SOMETHING is always going around.

At our nurses staff meeting last week we discussed changing the lice policy to where they can stay in school. Teachers and parents will LOVE this, but sending them home isn't supported by the CDC, NSNA, AAP, etc. And the chronic kids are the ones that need to stay in school the most.

This makes me CRAZY! Or when a parent posts of FB that their darling is home sick and another parent comments with "Oh that's going all around school" REALLY? We have had 2 cases, let's not alert the authorities just yet! But you know once it's on Facebook it's true! :sarcastic:

Yeah, so.....

Had a 4th grader put a staple in a light socket. (Let the Mensa meeting commence!) Nice little zap with that one! :specs:

Thought the sub in the room was going to have a heart attack.

Almost Thursday, folks...Keep hope alive! :wideyed:
