"The Code Blue Disturbed The Other Patients" - Shame on you bad nurses!

Is it just me or does it seem that a requirement to work in management is no common sense?

We had a Code Blue the other night - it was a very traumatic and rough code blue but thank god we brought the patient back and they were stabilized and then taken to ICU.

Next shift - as we are coming on duty (4 staff from the previous nightshift myself included) we are told to meet the Warden in her office.

"Other patients said you were to loud and distubing them". "One patient said she saw some staff joking and laughing"

and i quote: "Just cuse you saved a life does not mean you can carry on and be loud. Next time you have an emergency take care of it quietly"

HELLO!!! Get real.....EVERY code blue in my entire career is loud - its a life or death situation and there are 15 people trying to save a persons life.

Does anybosy see this as insane or is it just me?

The patients seem to think that we are having a party when in reality its a major emergency

Your manager is a moron. Tell the patients if they have a prob with the loud codes you will be more than happy to stay silent if they ever have one. lol

I am an ER RN, and about 2 weeks ago I had a lady and her 16 year old daughter (who was being seen for a cough. Thats it..a cough) throw open the door to a room where we were coding a 48 year old full arrest and loudly state "WELL SINCE WE CAN NOT GET ANY SERVICE HERE, WE WILL JUST GO TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL!!!! YOU ARE ALL IN HERE WITH THIS PATIENT AND WE HAVE BEEN HERE 45 MINUTES AND THE DOCTOR HAS NOT SEEN MY DAUGHTER".

....didnt go over well with any of the staff in the room.

Specializes in ICU, Home Health, Camp, Travel, L&D.

You could always remind her it's much quieter when we don't code them at all...go toward the light, baby!

Specializes in Electrophysiology, Medical-Surgical ICU.

Maybe you guys should add a hall runner to the code team when. A code is called they run by and make sure everybody's door is shut and tv is on or something

Specializes in Geriatics.

OMG do we work in the same facility...that's sounds just like something our management would say.

Specializes in PCCN.
A hospital is a hospital and a spa is a spa. If the patient wants peace and quiet they should go to a spa!

but tyhey think they ARE at the spa:down::mad:

Nah, then you'd have to fill out an incident report. Just hand her an AMA form and tell her to have a safe drive!

I love handing people AMA forms.

Whatta ******* I can see it now...

Hey...psssst...hey...can you pass me the epi?...no, the epi...psst...are you listening?...I said epi...here, let me write it down and pass you a note............

Get a freakin' life

whispering "everybody clear!"

put the quick combo pads on each side of the managers head, charge to 360 joules and shock. maybe something will work afterward.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

i just hope that if i am ever on the receiving end of a code that the staff makes as much noise as necessary to do their jobs effectively. no matter whom else it may disturb!

sounds like another five star manager to me!

whispering "everybody clear!"

whispering back "I'm bad at reading lips especially when everyone is whispering so fast what did you say?" :lol2:
