"The Code Blue Disturbed The Other Patients" - Shame on you bad nurses!

Is it just me or does it seem that a requirement to work in management is no common sense?

We had a Code Blue the other night - it was a very traumatic and rough code blue but thank god we brought the patient back and they were stabilized and then taken to ICU.

Next shift - as we are coming on duty (4 staff from the previous nightshift myself included) we are told to meet the Warden in her office.

"Other patients said you were to loud and distubing them". "One patient said she saw some staff joking and laughing"

and i quote: "Just cuse you saved a life does not mean you can carry on and be loud. Next time you have an emergency take care of it quietly"

HELLO!!! Get real.....EVERY code blue in my entire career is loud - its a life or death situation and there are 15 people trying to save a persons life.

Does anybosy see this as insane or is it just me?

The patients seem to think that we are having a party when in reality its a major emergency

I just don't think I would have been able to keep my mouth closed when my brain would have been screaming to say "Well then, thank GOODNESS we wound up saving the patient then. I can't imagine the trouble we would've gotten into if the patient hadn't of lived."

This would have probably been my response, and I would be looking for work soon after. Well done, IMHO. The patient's life was saved, that is what matters.

I currently work in a LTAC facility. That could be a thread all by itself.

I know! I know! Code Blue Charades! We'd be the life of every party!

FlyingScot, would it go something like this? (LOL)

I guess....also i am at home sleepless and totally delerious/exhausted/

So you could say "i love you" and in my reduced mental functioning right now, I'd think you are verbally assaulting me!

Sleep does wonders but my body says - YOUR NOT TIRED!!!

I love you.

I stayed up after my last night shift until 7 PM. I was so tired, but just couldn't sleep.

I'm thinking about getting a 'script for Ambien or something.

Thats it..a cough) throw open the door to a room where we were coding a 48 year old full arrest and loudly state "WELL SINCE WE CAN NOT GET ANY SERVICE HERE, WE WILL JUST GO TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL!!!! YOU ARE ALL IN HERE WITH THIS PATIENT AND WE HAVE BEEN HERE 45 MINUTES AND THE DOCTOR HAS NOT SEEN MY DAUGHTER".

....didnt go over well with any of the staff in the room.

She was wrong when she threw open the door. You never do that at a hospital because you never know what you might be interrupting. I've not had a day of any medical training, and I know better than that.

It would have been nice if someone had of let that lady know that someone would be assisting her shortly, but her actions were totally uncalled for.

ahhh, but this action does not support five star customer service . This entire thread revolves around that.

In the "olden days", a manager would have listened to the complaint, thanked them for bringing it to her attention, state that she would look into the situation and that would be it.

That is exactly what my manager does and I love her for it. I will never ever, ever, ever quit my job because I know there isn't another manager out there who would do that for the staff.

another reason why managers and administrators should be kept in a building about 100 miles from the hospitals and have to put their ideas and thoughts in a memo and neatly placed in the big green or brown suggestion box out back.

There are some complaints that have to be taken seriously and should be brought to the attention of nurses, doctors, etc, but a loud Code Blue is not one of them. When it got too loud when I was in the hospital for almost a week after having my son (pre enclampsia and his jaundice--which had pretty much cleared up) I just put on my clothes and told them I was going home. They looked at me crazy (they thought I was kind of crazy anyway) checked me and my son out, and discharged us. I never would have complained about it being loud, especially if I knew it was because the staff was doing their job.

I would have loved to have earplugs to drown out the noise of parents who bring their children to the hospital to visit and then let those children run around yelling in the hall and bursting into patients' rooms. I am not making this up!

Running around without shoes on. Oh...and they want ice cream too!!!

Don't do that! If you choke and we have to code you, we'd have to be vewy vewy qwiet...
