"Nurse Appreciation Week" gifts from employer

Published

Well, ours started today. Very nice cooler that holds a 6-pack that has a netted beach bag on top. Hospital colors and logo, of course. Inside was a beach ball, a bottle huggie and a frisbee..all with hospital logo..lol. I'm impressed, though. This is the biggie, I'm sure..but just the beginning.

Anyone else wish to share their gifts????

A cheap plastic flashlight made in China, with the legend "Together we shine" (clever, no?). The only reason we got that was that a drug rep came by and dropped off a case of them.

Well, like most of you- we didn't get much. A box of chocolate, 1 box for each department. Not our own of course! A quick pep talk from the director. (WhooooHooooo!!!!!!)

I will say that I laughed at a lot of replies and it's great that we CAN laugh.

I wish everyone the best, only we know the true meaning of caring for others.

P.S. LOVE the knife-very interesting

i guess that people tend to forget what it means to be sick and needing someone to take care of them-- i became a nurse to take care of people-- i appreciate the gift that i have been given-- nothing from the facility i work at-- the gift that i am talking about is the pride and dignity that i have gained through sharing the experiences of life with my fellow human beings-- god gave me a great gift and i pray everyday that i can fulfill the trust that people put in me with their lives-- they depend on me to shoulder their burdens in life-- for a little person i seem to have big shoulders to carry those burdens-- nurses, i salute each and every one of you-- may we all be united in our strength, compassion and love of life so that we can give back to those who have so generously given to us happy nurses week

Well, tigger2sassy....Please understand that I appreciate your statement and I agree in theory...I feel like the fact I am a nurse is somewhat of a "holy calling". I believe that really great nurses are *called* not "made".

BUT

I feel the same way about being a Mother and having a "Mothers' Day" to celebrate. Even though I feel it is a privilege and an honor to have my children and to say that I am a mom, I feel that having a day to celebrate Mothers and having special gifts, dinners, etc. is NECESSARY!!! It is always nice to know we are appreciated, have our hard work noticed, have a day we feel cared for and especially loved.

So even though I agree about having the "calling".....well, gee....it is good to have our employer notice us and say "Thank you for being a Nurse!"

How about you guys??

I did not get into this business to have gifts lavished upon me. By the same token, it would be nice to be recognized as a group. For physicians' week, the hospital I worked in had pastries and other food items carried around to the different floors for the doctors throughout the day, had the physicians' lounge specially decorated, and had a recognition dinner for the doctors. For nurses week? A bunch of plastic mugs that had been stuck away in storage for about two years.

More than anything, I am angry that the REGISTERED nurses are going to get something and the LPNs and CNAs are going to get nothing. As an LPN, I am just as much a NURSE as an RN...I don't have as much education, I don't have as much responsibility, and I don't make as much money, but I am still a NURSE. I hate the idea that REGISTERED nurses are being singled out and given bigger and better recognition than the LPNs and CNAs. LPNs and CNAs are really the only people in the hospital who are not recognized...they recognize people from housekeeping, laundry, respiratory, radiology, dietary, purchasing, etc, but the LPNs and CNAs are essentially snubbed. They did have a lunch for us today that was pretty good, but I am insulted that I am not being recognized as a NURSE on the same level as the RNs.

Here's my idea for the perfect Nurses' Week celebration:

MONDAY: The doctors perform all the bedside care, the nurses breeze in and out of the patients rooms, shake their hands, charge a $200 consult fee, scribble some indecipherable gibberish in the charts, throw the charts on the counter (where the doctors can't see them...oh, and of course don't flag them either), stroll off the unit and then ignore their pages.

TUESDAY: Free parking in the doctor's reserved spots!

WEDNESDAY: Administer Go-Lytely to the hospital administrator of your choice!

THURSDAY: Install a call light inside your "favorite" patient's room, then each nurse gets a turn at pressing it incessantly...

FRIDAY: Free massages and margaritas in the cafeteria. Hey, it is almost the weekend...:p

Yes it must be repeated again!!!:rotfl:

Darn this is good!!! This is an example of a PERFECT NURSES WEEK TO ME!!!!!

Now does everyone have a specific administrator in MIND??:D

Thanks jadednurse...this deserves multiple repeats!!

HAPPY NURSES WEEK AGAIN TO EVERYONE!!!!:nurse: :nurse:

THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!!

we got cheap hospital logo radio, tiny, very fragile, wont last 2 min in my house, all other gifts will be donated by the nursing staff and redistributed

We got a tote bag with the Hospital Nursing logo on it (tax write-off) plus our NM got us a tac pin. Like I NEED another stupid tote bag!! Like I don't have a MILLION tote bags at home!

Also on Monday, the hospital took out another full page ad listing all of the nurses that work in the hospital, including PRN staff.

Next week, my facility is celebrating Hospital Week, so I think we'll get another gift, I think. Could be wrong though.

Finally got my "Employee Appreciation Week" gifts yesterday.

1. Bright Felon-Orange Tshirt with company logo tastefully silkscreened on left breast.

2. Really neat bag, with several hidden pockets, and adjustable shoulder strap, with company logo painted on outside pocket.

3. Magnetic badge holder gold colored with company logo.

4. Large chunk of pewter with company logo engraved on it with a thick cable with alligator clip sticking straight out the top of it

(pewter note holder).

5. Pad=folio with company inkpen.

6. Very large silver keychain with company logo.

The badge holder and the bag are neat. The badge has an extremely strong magnet instead of pins to make holes in your shirt, wore it all day yesterday and it held fine. The bag is a different design than any of the usual ones, we all really like them. The pewter note holder is kind of weird. Have to say I never saw anything like it.

Compared to some of the things people here have gotten or not gotten, I won't complain.

Love the ever present company logo ...they can't seem to give a gift without getting free advertising out of it...hehe!

Can't complain though...luv my (logo'd) bandage scissors...:)
