Well, ours started today. Very nice cooler that holds a 6-pack that has a netted beach bag on top. Hospital colors and logo, of course. Inside was a beach ball, a bottle huggie and a frisbee..all with hospital logo..lol. I'm impressed, though. This is the biggie, I'm sure..but just the beginning.
Anyone else wish to share their gifts????
We get lunch on Thursday, they gave away four gift certificates to the local uniform shop (donated by the uniform shop), we got the Every Day Hero buttons...that's about it. Kind of amazes me that the housekeepers, unit secretaries, dietary, etc get things like candles, gift certificates to restaurants, coolers, paid days off, etc, but nurses get one meal...I understand that there are a lot more of us and that they only have so much money, but it's kind of insulting. Also on Friday the REGISTERED nurses get stethoscope covers and snacks from the gift shop...the LPNs and CNAs do not.
As I am out on medical leave, I have no idea what my hospital is doing. I have talked to a couple of people, including my boss, and no one has mentioned it. Last year all the nurses got really nice quartz wristwatches and we had free dinner in the caf. So I am curious why I have heard nothing. Of course, it could be that they have forgotten to tell me. Out of sight, out of mind, ya' know...

Hmmmm....I don't mean to giggle...but a knife? Was it a letter opener possibly?
Anyway...your gifts sound better than what I received..which was: a paper bag that contained a very small zip-lock baggy of hard candy (approx 8 pieces of candy), a magnet & post-it notes...that said free sample on them! Needless to say, the majority of us left our "bags" at the nurses station. Happy Nurses' Week everyone!
i guess that people tend to forget what it means to be sick and needing someone to take care of them-- i became a nurse to take care of people-- i appreciate the gift that i have been given-- nothing from the facility i work at-- the gift that i am talking about is the pride and dignity that i have gained through sharing the experiences of life with my fellow human beings-- god gave me a great gift and i pray everyday that i can fulfill the trust that people put in me with their lives-- they depend on me to shoulder their burdens in life-- for a little person i seem to have big shoulders to carry those burdens-- nurses, i salute each and every one of you-- may we all be united in our strength, compassion and love of life so that we can give back to those who have so generously given to us happy nurses week
Well, I got a vinyl lunch bag...black with logo and something about lifiting spirits, touching lives.....we were ordered to come down to cafe and eat w/ VP. Couldn't make it--had pts to take care of (shouldn't they staff better during this week?). Anyway, I work 12's and the bkfst "cattle" call was for RN's; the lunch call was for RN's and CNA's and the dinner was for RN's, CNA's, and unit secretaries.....we figured that by midnoc they'd be trolling for housekeeping........ What the he** am I supposed to do with this, my 3rd lunch bag? I don't get the bags.....am I supposed to bring my lunch, therefore never leaving the floor (because I'm too busy)? Or is it that I have to brown bag it because I don't paid enough to afford the cafe? Which one do you think?
