PVT IS DEAD! Don't try the "new" trick

The PVT was never meant to happen. It was not some trick invented to give us results before the 48 hour quick results were ready, it was a computer glitch that allowed us the peace of mind of finding out early if we most likely passed. Therefore it is no surprise that PV found a way to fix it. Those of us who are already licensed got lucky. New testers are not likely to have that sort of luck.

There is a new trick circulating that basically says you can still get the good popup if you try to pay. There is a problem with this, if you put in your credit card information and it allows you to pay, there is NO REFUND if you actually passed. The PVT was never 100% accurate, and false fails were more prominent than false passes. So if you put in your CC and it takes it, there is around a 5% chance that you passed and you just paid 200$ for an inaccurate trick.

Those in states that allow quick results will have to wait 48 hours. It is 48 terrible mind numbing frightening hours, but it's worth it not to pay for a new registration. Those in states not participating in quick results, you should call your BON after 48 hours and try to re-register on the phone. They should stop you if you passed.

The trick was a sanity saver for thousands, and it is sad to see it go, but it was inevitable that it was going to eventually get fixed.

UPDATE

As of October 2016, many people are still reporting that the PVT TRICK still works.

When I took the NCLEX-RN (paper & pencil), it took 4-6 weeks to get results in the mail.

Yes, it was a while ago...;)

Could only take boards a few times per year. Be there, or wait till the next time rolls around.

2 full days of testing 800 (1000?) questions. pencil & scantron.

Then go home and wait for the US mail.

It was longer than 4-6 weeks. More like 10-12 weeks.

No PVT, no early results. When it came, it came.

this is some B.S. are these nclex thieves THAT desperate for money? they cant even give us that simple relief of mind? is it not enough that they suck up our 200 dollars everytime we have to retake a test? now they are butthurt and decide to take the trick away so they can get EXTRA money, forcing people to pay for quick results if they want it early. Pathetic. And ofcourse, knowing my luck this just has to happend right before Im about to take my exam!!! the pop up trick has been working for all these years, why are they just NOW changing it. I really hate these people!

This so-called 'trick' has never been supported or sanctioned by Pearson Vue or NCLEX. It has been a system software 'glitch' for some time. Quick results have been available in some states for a very long time. This is not a new charge, or a means to collect more charges. Some states don't even offer early notification.

Repairing or upgrading software for greater accuracy is well within PV's rights, and frankly, they had an obligation to fix the glitch because this 'trick' was never 100% accurate. There have been many, many cases where some believed they failed and did not, and some believed they passed and did not. Can you imagine the stress those people suffered for using the glitch as proof of pass/fail?

No one is taking anything away from you, nor are they revoking any rights you might have enjoyed, and they have not assessed new fees.

There is nothing new here.

You lasted through nursing school, and as torturous as it may seem to wait 48 hours for quick results or to check your BON, it is better than the 4-6 weeks many older nurses had to wait. And more accurate than taking advantage of some silly software glitch.

I am glad you passed! Everyone has the same feelings during the wait for results. It is heartbreaking to wait. However, entering a credit card that you know have no funds is like writing a bad check. It is against the law. If you do fail, PV is going to have it on your record that you did that, not so sure that they will be happy when you do have to re-register

I never thought about it that way & it made me feel kinda bad after I read it. I was so caught up that I made an error in judgement that I would not have made otherwise.

MrChicago, I heard about the torturous ways the test used to be given. Every new grad should hear from those of you who had to wait that long. I have heard that the old way had a trick as well. that is RN was after your name on the envelope it meant you passed. I have also heard that a few nurses became so upset that RN was not on the envelope, they refused to open it until a family member made them do so. I think I like it better the newer way! :-)

Monkey, EXACTLY! ATM machines may have a computer glitch that gives you extra cash, but most of us won't complain if it stops doing that! There are actually people calling and yelling at PV for fixing their software. unbelievable!

I think this only applies if you receive a service or item because of the "bad check". If you have received nothing, there is no harm or foul because you simply are not getting anything from it.

An example would be if you painted someone's house and they gave you a check. Well, if you already painted the house and you got to cash your payment from your customer that was in a form of a check, and it bounces, then yes, it is illegal seeing as the service was already performed. The painter can then sue the customer for the amount he was to receive.

However, if the same painter was given a check before painting and tried to cash it before painting and it bounced, then the painter either a) doesn't paint the house or b) gets paid another way or with a good check. In this instance, the only thing lost is time and I am not sure that is suable (word?).

Hey, it used to be a standard SIX WEEKS and you had to wait for the mailman. Now that was frustrating.

There are actually people calling and yelling at PV for fixing their software. unbelievable!

Wow, I think that is a mistake, and not very professional. If a nursing student called me and yelled at me about something of this nature, I would seriously consider their ability to handle stress on the job as a nurse.

For anyone reading this, I encourage you to take a step back and avoid calling PV. It will do nothing to change the situation, and you could land yourself in some serious trouble (that may affect your eligibility to test).

I know it is stressful, but the time will pass, and you will have 'official' results. Go do something that saps the energy out of you, or distracts you. Taking it out on PV, or anyone else, just isn't productive.

I just did this trick with a reloadable visa card and got "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time." So hopefully I got the pop up for a good reason!

I tested on Friday, however I waited until AFTER the new pearson website to check for the PV trick... Now I REALLY would need to wait until my results appear on the BON site. I'm not going to pay the $8 for the quick results. That's how much I have left on my account lol

Did this change happen after the recent saturday maintenance shut-down?

andibee, yes, it did.

Oh, how can it be working all these years and when my time comes around it won't work anymore? Haha well we who'll be taking the NCLEX-RN soon are still pretty lucky we'll only wait 48 hours for the quick results. As for other countries or back then they had to wait weeks upon weeks or even months. Now that is agony! So relax yourself during the looooooooooongest 48 hours of your life. :) Pass or fail keep your head up.
