I don't post often compared to some but I do read AN extensively. I stay out of the flame wars but it gets really old seeing the same garbage over and over again, from both old and new nurses. With all the various threads flying about right now I would like to stop and acknowledge a true nursing professional.
Esme12, your posts are always insightful, kind and truthful. Your words of wisdom are delivered with class and grace without glossing over the hard facts of nursing. You epitomize the ideal of the professional registered nurse.
I wish I worked with you........but on second thought, I do. I work with nurses who have decades of experience and yet are not bitter or intolerant of others. It took me a few tries to find my niche (psychiatric nursing) but now I can look forward to every day working with the "esme12's" of my unit. Thanks.
I'm relatively new to AN. I saw this thread yesterday and entered "Esme12" into the search box at around 6 pm yesterday. I finally stopped reading her posts and blog at 4 am this morning. What a beautiful, wonderful human being!
We should have warned you about that. Esme12 posts may be habit-forming!
ESME12 is truly a God send. I was able to PM her countless times as she helped me through my year of CVICU and patiently taught me over the internet how to do complete a Cardiac output and all about swanz. I would pay good money to meet her in person, even if it was just for a few minutes. Her wisdom, grace, intelligence, and spirit is of rare form. I just love her !!!!

I wrote this a while ago about ESME, I'm glad others are starting to acknowlege her as well.
tyvin, you put it very well, and that's exactly why I wrote about her, she is a mentor to many. Aren't nurses supposed to teach? Not just teach the new nurses/patients who fit their ideal of behavior, but teach everyone no matter what their personal opinion of them? I mentioned the nurses I currently work with as being "Esme12"s". They are consistently patient, knowledgeable and willing to teach, I know they have a depth of experience I will not ever obtain due to their longevity in their field and my "advanced" age (staring down the barrel of 50). I also know they don't care personally for some of their co-workers but they are able to maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude which makes our unit a team environment. I am paying it forward every chance I get with new nurses and anyone else I can give a hand to. I choose to be awesome like Esme12.
