BBB and the future of nursing
I'm not baffled. I read Josh Hawley's op-ED and the AARP article which expresses deep concern. https://www.aarp.org/advocacy/how-medicaid-changes-hurt-older-americans-2025/

Application Rejections
As an MSN I also had hoped to become a nurse educator though I had no teaching experience. I found an LPN program that hired me with no teaching experience. I emphasized all the informal experiences I had - conducting in-services, mentoring/precepting, etc. Acquiring teaching experience in an LPN program can help you move up later.

Bill introduced to allow AI to prescribe medications
"... if authorized by the state involved and approved by the FDA." But employees have already been fired at the FDA and the Director of FDA food safety has resigned as a result. Who will be left to approve AI as a practitioner?

Is This Common in LTC?
Oh no no no. A sliding scale like this (usually written 0-100; 101-200; 201-300, etc.) is not safe because the MD specifically ordered a call-out if the blood glucose level is above 400 and a nurse following the order AS WRITTEN could be endangering the patient. At my LTC the supervisor would ask the prescriber (when an order like this is first seen) if they could adjust it to "over 400: give 8 units and call MD". Otherwise the RN is defying an order if she gives the 8 units for >400. You are correct

Clinical Grading
My school uses pass/fail and we evaluate student progress each week, looking for just that - progress. Our students go to different clinical sites so it is deemed unfair to grade students on practice skills when some students may have more opportunity than others to shadow and observe nurses before actually performing the skill.

Leaving the Bedside
I left bedside nursing for the reasons exactly as you describe them - "It was about requesting certain days off and not having it approved. It was about not being reimbursed for a conference that improved your line of work. It was about workplace safety, unsafe staffing levels, and mandatory overtime." But I did enjoy teaching also, and although I had no official teaching experience, other than orienting new hires and conducting in-services, I was able to find a position in teaching at an LPN level. It's eye-opening, and there is no age discrimination that I can see - schools appreciate that experienced nurses who want to stay in the field (often after injuries hamper their bedside career) have a lot to offer. Best of luck!

First Teaching Job: Adjunct Faculty
I asked my supervisor if she could recommend an instructor who might have valuable tips for me. I also asked if I could shadow another clinical instructor. There are probably forms, evaluation documents, and policy manuals that you should review. Good luck in your new job!

Gender neutral opening of Congress
This didn't irritate me as much as hearing Hawley say "irregardless" in his speech.... https://www.cracked.com/blog/6-words-made-up-by-stupid-people-we-should-learn-to-accept/

What is up with the level of entitlement?
This is an interesting post because it reflects what my new grad students say to me when they come back to visit me on campus - in reverse. Last week a newly hired grad texted me, "why don't the experienced nurses want to work with me? I know I need extra help and time but I worked hard to become a nurse. I'll get there!" My students, who I have encouraged to check out this site, have heard all the "Nurse eat their young" stories and I suspect are entering the field with the preconceived notion that they will be unwelcome. A chip on their shoulders and anticipating the worst may be getting in their way from day 1.

Please Read: Fired from first nursing job
Try to take this as a minor blip in your nursing career. There are so many different paths in nursing and you may find yours on the next attempt. I agree with other posters that your former employers don't care about why you were unsuccessful, and as you look for new employment your future employers will not be too concerned if your first job wasn't what you had hoped. Take a breath, care for yourself, and try again. Good luck!

Violent Insurrectionists Storm United States Capitol
The woman who was shot at the protests has died. Reminder to the people that Ivanka has referred to as "American Patriots": It's possible to be charged with first-degree murder under the felony murder rule even if there's no intent to kill. All that's necessary is the participation in the commission of a felony, where a death occurs during that felony, even if the defendant wasn't the one who killed the victim. Vandalism on federal property is a felony.

I want to apologize to my instructor. Please help me.
I am an instructor in a nursing school and a verbal attack in class happened to me. The student quickly sent me an email of apology, which I appreciated. However, the class seemed to continue to shun the student (no responses to her questions/comments in online class - this silence is normally a very rare occurrence). She eventually said something in class similar to what you describe, CommunityRNBSN, and the class expressed appreciation for her apology as well. All is forgiven now and we are a team again.

Nurse Educator Salary in Middle/East Tennessee
I teach in a technical school (for profit) in an LPN program. I was surprised the salaries are better than non-profit state schools. You might want to check that out in your state too.

Is this typical for an LPN program?
Yes this does seem reasonable. Our requirement is 75% test average and the math test is the same as you describe. Three tries to earn 100%

DNP vs PhD
I pursued the DNP for several reasons but the 2 main reasons: 1) I wanted to be able to teach in an MSN program and all programs that I looked in to require a terminal degree. I currently teach in a RN program. 2) While pursuing my MSN I worked on several lit review-type projects and I loved reading the research results which had been confirmed by other researchers. And yet it didn't matter how many articles I read that confirmed best practice, I never saw the policies in place in the 4 facilities I worked in. It was so frustrating to see 4 different policies/procedures that weren't reflective of current nursing research. So all those PhDs were producing excellent research that was seldom translated into practice. So I decided to try to do that.

Clinical pass/fail or a grade
Pass/fail at my school. None of my students would earn a passing grade in clinical - they are students who have no healthcare experience with live patients. We bring them along slowly and carefully and watch for their development. At least we did, until we got kicked out of our clinical sites due to increasing numbers of COVID cases
