The Times of Israel has an interesting article with Capital riot pictures documenting hate symbols used by those attending the riot.. Other articles document Neo-Nazis symbols, pictures along with extremist activities that influenced that fateful day.

Prominent Holocaust deniers and neo-Nazis were part of the Capitol mob. A far-right activist known as Baked Alaska livestreamed from inside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Another extremist, Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist who leads the far-right Groyper Army, was said to be in the room with him. Fuentes denies this but was outside the Capitol on Wednesday.

The neo-Nazi group NSC-131 also joined the insurrection, according to reporter Hilary Sargent. NSC stands for Nationalist Social Club and has small regional chapters in the United States and abroad. The 131 division is from New England.

A U.S. Army reservist arrested on suspicion of participating in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was known to most of his co-workers as a white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer and grew a “Hitler mustache” while working as a Navy contractor with security clearance, according to federal prosecutors.

Timothy Hale-Cusanelli of Colts Neck, N.J., is among a growing number of people connected to the military or police who are charged with participating in the storming of the U.S. Capitol. The arrests come as law enforcement and military leaders confront the infiltration of their ranks by people with extremist ideologies. Hale-Cusanelli faces five federal charges, including three counts of crimes on restricted grounds....

...The interviews, as well as racist and offensive photos and cartoons found on Hale-Cusanelli’s phone, are not legal grounds to halt his release, prosecutors acknowledge. But they said the ideology is a driving force behind his aspiration for a “civil war,” making him a danger to the community. He deleted social media accounts and videos from his Youtube channel before his arrest, leading authorities to believe he could obstruct justice, according to the filing....

Just jumping in here because your post struck a particular chord, and perhaps it will make people's attitudes toward Trump slightly more understandable.

Your comment "it is not logical to blame EVERYTHING going forward on Trump." That would be a perfectly valid point if we were talking about opposing agendas between Republican and Democrat presidents before Trump, including Richard Nixon, the most villified President of the modern era.

I will preface my comment with a reference to a popular talking point of the Clinton era, "character matters". I now believe it's a damn shame that talking point was wasted on the Paula Jones deposition and a finger-wagging sound bite. 

I would argue that whatever happened there it cannot be demonstrated that it affected his performance as POTUS.

Trump's flaws of character affect every aspect of his performance as POTUS, and it may be years before we even approach knowing what damage those flaws have unleashed. From a policy angle, a great deal of the damage was caused by his stationing his fanatical loyalists across the federal bureaucracy.

Another factor to consider is that while it was amply demonstrated that Trump attempted to damage the current president using the powers of the office he held, much of the damage occurs to people in areas where it is largely happenstance that the news media will pick it up.  Now that those Trump people aren't around to bury evidence of Trump's thorough corruption, at least some of it will come to light, albeit probably slowly and incompletely.

I just don't think it's right to apply typical political slogans to that person and his administration. The worst is yet to come.

The US intelligence community said in a landmark report Tuesday that the Russian government meddled in the 2020 election with an influence campaign "denigrating" President Joe Biden and "supporting" former President Donald Trump, detailing a massive disinformation push that successfully targeted, and was openly embraced, by Trump's allies.

Russia's objectives were not limited to hurting Biden's candidacy and aiding Trump's reelection bid, the report says, as US intelligence found that Moscow also sought to undermine "public confidence in the electoral process and exacerbate sociopolitical divisions in the US."...

Russia used people close to Trump to spread disinformation

Russia's efforts to influence the 2020 elections feature prominently in the report, which details how "proxies linked to Russian intelligence" were used to push unsubstantiated claims about Biden to into the American mainstream.

"A key element of Moscow's strategy this election cycle was its use of proxies linked to Russian intelligence to push influence narratives -- including misleading or unsubstantiated allegations against President Biden -- to US media organizations, US officials, and prominent US individuals, including some close to former President Trump and his administration," the report says....

...For example, the US intelligence agencies assessed that Putin "had purview over the activities of Andriy Derkach," the Ukrainian lawmaker who met with Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and repeatedly promoted anti-Biden disinformation. By tying Putin directly to Derkach's actions, the report only puts one degree of separation between the Russian leader and Trump's lawyer.....

President Joe Biden made two stops in Delaware County Tuesday as part of his "Help Is Here" tour to highlighted how the American Rescue Plan addresses the need for vaccine and economic relief for small businesses and individuals.

Biden talks Cuomo, Putin, migrants, vaccine in ABC News exclusive interview I

President Joe Biden sat down with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos for a wide-ranging interview Tuesday in which he said his message to migrants was to not come to the border and that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign if allegations he committed sexual harassment are confirmed.
